Garden Designers for Plymouth Hospital

Hello, any garden designers out there who may be interested in a project in Plymouth? Plymouth Hospitals are looking for expressions of interest from garden designers to design a therapy garden in a 217 sq m space at the hospital. Please message me if you are interested and for more information.

Try the local colleges, there are often students who need to do stuff for their portfolios and what better project! I found this course at Plymouth University, so they may have someone that would jump at the chance:- Plymouth garden and Landscaping

How about trying colleges / Uni's. I found this course at Plymouth University - Garden and Landscaping, I bet they'd have some students who would jump at the chance to add something like this to their portfolios.

The shortest time we lived in a house was 18 months - the neighbour turned out to have serious psychological problems, he took against me within weeks, pushing notes through letterbox saying I was a female she devil and deserved to burn in hell etc, etc. and quoting bible stuff. I had not even seen or spoken to him at that point, just held perfectly normal conversations with his partner. Then it was pounding on our adjoining walls at night, digging up the plumbing pipes behind our houses (he didn't want polluted excrement through the pipes?!) going out to his work leaving the Magic flute playing at full blast (echoes an episode of Morse?) until we had to call the police. The culmination was a throwing bricks at our french windows standing in our garden, apparently attempting to stone me (something biblical again?). We couldn't sell the house to anyone but a landlord who "took it off our hands" at a price below what we paid for it. I felt guilty as he continued to harass various renters afterwards, but eventually they moved out, not before breaking the legs of the last occupant next door. The police were very politically correct throughout and of course I felt immensely sorry for his condition, but have to wonder about care in the community as opposed to the days when people with serious psychiatric problems were locked up for their own good and the good of others. What do people think on that score??

To add to my earlier comment, I think my individualism epitomises the very essence of being a true Brit. I'm not a slave to trends, just go with my heart and hope my design ideas will come together in some sort of coherent way. There's pride in that in spades, and we're a proud nation, aren't we?!

Hi Ocean Clarke ( lovely name!). I started collecting glass in general about five years ago, picking g it up in charity shops, car boots and auctions. One day I found a piece of Whitefriars glass and it knocked all the other glass into a cocked hat! I got rid of most of the other glass and started collecting Whitefriars, the best glass ever made in the UK, in my opinion. It took me roughly three years to put this collection together but it is more difficult to find, so most of it I bought on eBay or through auctions. I found the occasional piece in charity shops, and bought a lot from a retiring collector. I've virtually stopped now due to chronic lack of space but we are moving into a larger home soon and my ambition is to have custom built glass shelving with great lighting and glass doors (dusting this little lot takes three hours wearing white cotton gloves, eeeek)!!! If that happens, fingers crossed, I will post further pictures. BTW! I also collect genie bottles!

Hi Paul. I like the idea of a 3D white wall or have a look at the elitis textured wallpapers on the link. They're expensive but stunning. I'd go for something very pale. I think the hall needs a statement light where the downlighter is. Perhaps an architectural style in a natural material which will tie in with the seascape. Could you also have a narrow console over the radiator? I like the monochrome scheme in the living room, it just needs some texture and pattern, I agree with Carolina would either change the table or rug. Maybe a black or grey and white patterned rug or even a grey cowhide? I'd add a grey sheepskin on the sofa and then add patterned and textured cushions in shades of white and grey. Do you have another piece of art the same size as the hare and both could hang over the sofa? When the Xmas tree is down I'd look at adding a large potted plant and then perhaps add a couple of gold or copper accessories, vase/dish for the table etc https://www.amara.com/shop/brand/elitis/wallpaper

I would do a bit of research on Horatio's Garden to see how they approached it. Obviously a much bigger project but a fascinating one.

I'd love to help but its probably a bit far from Southampton! Interested to hear more though as i have family in Plymouth. Might be worth contacting the Society of Garden Designers as they can post design invites/tenders/competitions etc to attract interest from designers particularly in your region.

I would be interested to know more. I don't consider travelling to be an issue, I could go scuba diving when visiting!

I have done some training with Thrive and visited the first Horatios Garden in Salisbury.
