Floor to ceiling internal glass sliding doors

I need to have glass doors on the entrance to our new dining room, which has been tagged onto the back of our house, so that the existing room isn't completely blocked of light.

I'd like to have a glass sliding door full height - so just under 2400 x 838mm (ish) width. I've seen normal sized sliding doors with a glass panel above to make up the height, but I'd prefer to have it all glass unless there is a reason not to. Weight would be one reason, but there may be others.

Does anybody have internal sliding glass doors that height and what has your experience been like?

Lots of companies make them that tall. I don’t think they are used much as it is often expensive and more difficult to move the steel beam that will usually be above them, high enough!

The door (and a fixed glass panel) are going in as a replacement for two windows and a pillar so the steel beam is already accounted for. I was more concerned about usability of sliding doors that tall.

Hi Kelly, I see that you have not had a reply to your question. So I would like to help, New bi-fold doors and sliding doors have an excellent thermal value. Doors can be made of multiple materials but the best in look, durability is alimininum, with aluminium and double glazed glass zed glass units you will be more than comfortable in the summer and the winter. If you are concerned about the heat coming into the room, for example, if you are south facing, we have a product called thermal glass. We use thermal glass on our roof lights; it is a treated glass that has a tint and reflects heat, the double glazed units stop heat from escaping. I have attached a few pictures of our skylight showing the thermal glass and an example of large skylights and large bifolds, honestly you will not be worried at all with large amounts glass these thermal values. I have an opening 2.4m high by 2.9m wide. We had wooden doors with obscure glass made which slide into cavities. The doors hang from a mechanism at the top only (first photo). I used obscure glass to avoid glare when watching television and also because it doesn't show figure marks as much as clear glass would.

For anyone else reading this thread, you can now get aluminium internal sliding doors either frame or surface fixed. These come fully glazed, in the steel look and even as frameless glass sliding doors. Happy to help with product advice and suppliers if you'd like to get in touch. Hope this helps Kind regards, Nick

I have a pocket door between our little study and the sitting room. It’s hung from the ceiling so does not require a frame but requires a recess. It works well for this area and the little lock mechanism locks. However, I would not recommend this for a toilet. It does not provide the noise insulation you would like for a loo.

Ive used a few sets at 2500 highand they are fine. They require effort to push but not so much that anyone couldn't slide them open.
