Off white or pale grey could work. If you are looking for something darker then you could try charcoal or navy.

I tend to go on ebay for cheap poly/cotton duvet covers, which don't last as long as linen but allows me to change my room a bit cheaply and easily. However, I've never noticed just how gendered bedding is, nor how horrible the 'masculine' options are. Single colour tartan duvet cover or camoflage? Euuuch. I did find a few nice duvet covers which didn't feature flowers, butterflies or 'bling'. Thank you both very much. I think we will stick with white (as we are not changing the right hand side door for the time being) and we will remove the small top sections on the windows to keep them bigger and cleaner and add lead lines for those front windows (and no lead line at the back of the house as there is a modern extension anyhow).

Hello, We would agree with the other comments above. There is no rule that you must abide by but generally speaking if you are to have a two toned kitchen, lighter colours for wall cabinets and the darker colour would be used on the base units, as for the tall cabinet this is very much a 50/50 decision.
