We have a very similar style of house and are also torn between playing it safe with white or light cream upvc windows to brighten the exterior or being a little more adventurous choosing grey. We are also having to replace all guttering, soffits and fascia ( we have 3 dormers to front and 3 at the back) so we are wondering about combining grey window frames, guttering and soffits with white fascias and white front door and white garage door. We are also supposed to decide by tomorrow but I am worried that getting it wrong will be a massive disappointment every time arrive home! i wish there was some way to "photoshop" the options onto an image of our house. Sorry not to offer any constructive advice but I found it reassuring to find another house owner struggling with a decision just like me!

Hi Claudia, I think a simplistic sofa would look great. The wall will be a lovely focal point so you don't want a fussy looking sofa. You can add texture and pattern by using throws and cushions. I agree with Rui - a natural look of rustic oaks and wickers would look great. Add a pop of colour with a lovely plant too! Whites taken from the Yellow Hue Family are certainly complementary to the Purple-Blue Hue Family of Basalt, which can add a little kick to your colour palette. But if you can take into consideration the colour measurements of your other fixed finishes (flooring/work surface/tiles) also, it will help make your palette all the more cohesive. It’s good to understand what you already have, before choosing paint colours to work with those finishes and the available light in your space. Even the most basic of those colour measurements, the Hue Family is powerful stuff. It’s not always that easy to know to which Hue Family many colours belong, just by eye. Especially with lots of near neutrals, so many of us have in the home these days. Using the same white on walls & trim, only in different finishes, is one straightforward approach to incorporating white. But if you fancy the idea of adding some extra layers of interest, it is possible to combine whites and off-whites successfully, if you keep a few things in mind. Key to this is a minimum difference in Chroma of 0.2. This stops one of the ‘whites’ looking dingy or dirty next to the other. Choosing 2 whites which are not toooo close together in Hue angle, nor too far apart either also helps. And if there is some difference in Value, (one lighter or darker than the other) that will only add to the feel of contrast. 🌈
