Help with Garden Design Please
Comments (5)Hi, I understand your frustration at your neighbours miss matching fence. Being the sunniest part of the garden it only accentuates the fault with a spot light. You could add some horizontal trellis to the upper part or if your budget can stretch do the whole fence. Painted soft wood can be a really economical solution and give a great effect.Your square patch of grass is only adding to the limitations of your garden. its drawing attention to the four corners and not creating an mystery. Having a curve to your grass will lead the eye away and create the illusion of more space.I would suggest building a curved seating area on your south side in the L shape by your shed. Railway sleepers positioned vertically with a chamfered top edge create a dramatic feature and are a really cost effect solution to screening. I would mask the end of your garden with these positioned across the whole width with an entrance to the right ( North side) The sleepers would then decrease in height as they curve round masking your shed and forming a built in seating area. They can also be stained adding to the dramatic effect. Black can look great if balanced well with bold planting. You are very fortunate to have a lovely hedge on your right, it could look fantastic. Good luck with your project!...See MoreGarden Design + Levelling / Sloping Garden Help
Comments (0)Hi, we've recently purchased a new build house and we're struggling a bit with how to configure the garden due to the way it slopes. It's essentially just a 10m x 10m square at the moment with a few squares of pavement, and a slope from the top left towards the house and to the right fence. (see pics) We're trying to work with the level as much as possible to reduce the cost of levelling, and we're thinking of a deck in the top right (sunspot), and a raised lawn in the top left, with some steps and sleeper beds / steps around the garden to support it. (see drawing) Does anyone with any garden experience have any thoughts on how feasible something like this would be and how much it would roughly cost? Or any alternative ideas for the garden? We have a dog so a lawn is essential, and a deck or patio in the top right is pretty much a given for us. Any ideas/design tips would really be appreciated! We're looking for something quite modern, ideally with levels to create interest and reduce the levelling costs (if this even achieves that?)...See MoreTime to start planning a garden design! Comments (25)Oh my word! Dyson is adorable! so ickle!! Now I wanna find a Rune (his name - like rune stones.. not like Rooney 😂) sized box to put him in. Thanks for the 3rd design! I'm always impressed how you come up with such interesting designs (compared to my rectangle of grass with straight boarders I'd envisioned) I think we still prefer the 1st design in part because Chris want's to keep more of the grass. I'd be tempted though to put some sort of low fence to deter Rune from eating crops so maybe I could put some plants against it and growing up that to help disguise? I think the old paving slabs is the best way forward atm instead of the stones... I never truly appreciated how many stones there were just around the garden... just around on the grass.. close to the house and rubble left from the building work, random ones on the small remaining bit of patio that I think have been kicked in from the driveway... Ironically the pile of new ones all in one place are the easiest to keep him away from! (doing the driveway has also jumped up to a higher priority for the year! 🙈) Does Dyson like your Dyson? (assuming you have one) I managed to terrify him the other day when I tried to clear up some of the bits of grass we'd brought back in with us (despite having a treat at the time!)...See MoreRear garden design ideas, please!
Comments (6)Hi there, Eventhough you have lost a chunk of the garden to the extension, you still have a very good space in there. It is just not laid out in the best way possible. I think that using the concrete base of the area where you are going to remove part of your shed will result in a patio area that is too small and not fit for purpose. If you can reduce the shed size that is great, but I would creat a patio/seating area where the swing currently is. I will ensure it is nice and surrounded by planting and would pottentially add in a pergola to add some height. In this area, you will get a bit of the afternoon sun. I would do a small patio right outside of your patio doors with a small table or maybe just a bench in case you want to enjoy the late morning sun. I would also aim to bring the planting a bit more to the centre of the garden to create interest. Also, when choosing the planting,be mindful to match it to your garden environmental co ditio s so they thrive. If you are interested, I offer a range of garden design services that can be done onlineand would love to help you with this project! Now is the perfect time to plan it so you can enjoy it in the summer time.
