karndean or wooden tiles?

I’m renovating the whole house I recently bought. I’m putting in water UFH throughout downstairs and I want the same wood effect flooring throughout. Initially I planned on using karndean but then someone mentioned wood effect tiles. Can anyone recommend a good brand for me to go look at? Which one (karndean or tiles) do people prefer and why?

The look and feel of something like Minoli Travelling or Axis is so much nicer than Karndean in my opinion. Karndean can be nice but the individual laying of the tiles and the fact porcelain is so much more robust just wins it for me. Karndean probably would be cheaper though!

Would tiles be a lot colder underfoot when the UFH isn’t on?

I’d been looking at karndean & it often has a lifetime residential guarantee which I thought was quite reassuring in terms of being hard wearing!

We have wet ufh and Karndean throughout our ground floor. The ambient heat to the rooms is really good. Obviously a tiled floor would spread the heat more evenly across the floor, but the flip side is that tiled floors are cold in the summer when you don’t have the ufh on. So, one of the reasons we chose Karndean was that it would feel warm underfoot all year. You need to make sure the correct adhesive is used so it doesn’t melt when the heat is on.

Luxury vinyl tiles like Karndean and Amtico are extremely hard wearing, water resistant and softer to the touch, so you may choose to turn off the UFH during the warmer months. We were told that the wearability is comparable to that of supermarket flooring: it gets lots of traffic but can withstand it.

Porcelain tiles too, are hard wearing and can give you the wood effect w/o the maintenance of wood; very easy to keep clean and water resistant. They are colder to the touch and was therefore advised to leave the UFH running all year round and control the temperature with a thermostat.

We went for an Italian make, 'Castelvetro' in 'vogue beige' from a local tile supplier.

My step daughter has porcelein wood effect tiles with electric UFH in her sun room and it is lovely. Sorry do not know the brand. It’s very easy to clean and very tough. During our hot summer this year it was lovely to walk on,
