Totally agree with VLS Curtain Makers Ltd. Whether you choose curtains or blinds to dress a window they should be what you like and want, suit the property and your lifestyle. I have clients with pets who would rather have a blind so that the fabric doesn't get covered in dog hair, whereas other clients prefer to have curtains trailing across the floor simply because they like the look and it suits how they live and the style of the property as well as their other furnishings.

Hi Nikki, we went with Thomas Sanderson blinds and originally went with the manual version but they didnt work very well so they upgraded our blinds for free to the battery operated version and they are great. Not 'blackout' as advertised but still pretty good. We paid around £4000 I think but if we were to have paid for the battery blinds it would have been £7500. Wish there was a better option but they seemed to be our only choice that would ensure our view was unobstructed and the room was dark. Hope that helps!

Hiya Jill, thanks for sending those images over. In response to your first question about your bedroom, I can think of a couple of solutions that may work. The first is the same solution as my previous French window answer to @montbray and fit something that moves with the window, either a Pleated or a Venetian which operate under tension and open with a thumb tab rather than a cord. Alternatively, it would look quite nice if a blind, particularly a Roman blind was fitted right to the top of the wall above the window, at the ceiling. This will allow the blind to be ‘dressed’ to form a valance effect above the window when the blind is open, giving full view from, and use of the window and when it is closed, it will give the illusion of the window being taller. In the case of your bathroom blind, you might like to try a waterproof Roller blind made from PVC fabric. Alternatively, Faux wood blinds are a really great idea, as they have all the look of traditional Wooden blinds, but won't warp in wet or steamy conditions. Admittedly, it is a difficult window to dress and there are not a lot of options, but hopefully, these will give you some ideas. Sarah

I agree with Stitched that if you want blackout, you need blackout lining; proper darkness is unbeatable for getting a decent night's sleep. Like you, I wanted blackout AND to keep the bedroom curtains looking light and airy, and we solved it by hanging two sets of curtains from the same pole, using the same rings and hooks. The back curtain is a blackout lining in very light beige, just enough to cover the window plus a *little bit* of fold; I think maybe 1.5 times the width of the window. The material is not really very thick or stiff, it's actually quite flowing. In front, we hung very pleated/gathered, gauzy white linen curtains; I think they are 3 or 4 times the width of the window. Because the blackout curtains are less wide, they don't bulk up at the side when opened and sit fairly flat when closed over the window, allowing the white linen, which is very gathered, to billow in front. I hope this makes sense -- it's actually very simple but a bit awkward to explain!
