Lighting dilemma

The lounge we're working on has two ceiling lights but we're planning to use mostly lamps and low lighting. Also, we'd like to go for a chandelier but the cost of two is prohibitive. The ceilings are also low-ish so I can only really have on above the coffee table in the centre of the room.
So, is it cheaper to get the light electrics changed to one central light or to buy two chandeliers?? Remembering that the plaster would need fixing up etc too!
TIA!
