Just finished a very cheap makeover on our Attic Room
Thought i'd share a couple of photo's, don't be too harsh!
We're looking to emigrate to Lanzarote and list our house as soon as possible.
In the middle of ripping out the main bathroom and replacing with a really luxury inspired 4 piece suite. Hopefully you'll be impressed with that one.
However, meanwhile, the wife did this over two days with a little bit of help with the heavy lifting.
Everything except for the two new rugs came from a Charity Furniture shop just up the road. The whole thing cost just less than £450 including the two new rugs.
I had to take a door frame off to get the sofa up the stairwell, but a minor adjustment in our house!
The wife's pleased, so i can be pleased.
Just wanted it to be a relaxing space for guests, and although it has restricted head height, I think she's pulled it off.

Comments (660)So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) Comments (10)I assume you're not keen on adding a bathroom? Jonathan made a good point re fire escape. Unless you want to use the study as a bedroom, I would think about blocking off the attic access in room 3, but leaving a door through the wardrobe in case ever needed, to create floor to ceiling wardrobes similar to the pic from home design (use of space not style) I'd create 2 rooms from 3 (obviously in the middle of the Velux) for the bedroom and playroom. Build a cabin bed as ASV suggested underneath the 5th and 6th velux similar to pic from ongamagazine. Make the bed 4ft wide for when your son grows. I'd have a built in desk built across the back wall of the study with a shelf above to house a tv. you can use off the shelf pieces but I think bespoke units are key to maximise the space. Comments (13)The bathroom measures 12ft x 7ft. I have a budget of around £1,000 for this room as in the very near future we will split the second bedroom to make a smaller bedroom and separate bathroom and put this bathroom back to bedroom 3. The carpets curtains and wallpaper are definitely going. The wall at the side of the loo looks bad but it’s just peeling paper. The walls may need skimming but this can be done along with the lounge. The house is at present is a 2 bed 110 year old semi detached cottage style property so although I’m young (20) I don’t want anything too modern....See More
