Appliance cabinets

Hi everyone
I've seen loads of kitchens on here where people hide appliances (microwaves, toasters, coffee machines normally) inside kitchen cabinets. I like this idea, as it takes clutter from the worktop; however, when I visited a Magnet kitchens showroom they told me that lots of people ask for this, but they don't do it as some appliances (microwaves) need ventilation and also it is a fire risk.
What do people think? Any experts / those who have done this have a view?

Comments (289)Lol, Jesse, I had to study that photo AVSinteriors posted forever to figure out what you meant about the tile direction but after I did I do see what you mean. I never thought of it that way but logic states the water would run off the vertical lengths of grout far more successfully than it will the horizontal! I went in the current family bathroom and had a look at the tiling - very interesting. And a plan changer. I'm glad we hadn't gone too far in planning the shower area yet. Here's an example of a creamy coloured kitchen with a white washing machine, while in person it's not very obtrusive, in pictures the washing machine does tend to stand out.
