Which colour wallpaper suits here?
We were thinking putting up wallpaper in the living room, but not sure which colour would suit the most. The colour that we had in our mind is grey/copper....but would that be too dark for the room.

Comments (12)The background seems to be a soft calming pale warm grey which I would try to match on the other walls and pick up the yellow in some of the accents such as lamp bases, curtains, cushions, a throw for the bed or even upholster a chair or long bench for the end of the bed if there is room for it. Comments (13)Thanks for all your comments, I shall try to fill in a few gaps I'm aiming at a reclaimed oak floor throughout, but it will depend on the funds I can get together in the next couple of months (fingers crossed) The orange wall does look like a colour block on the picture but I've included a sample of how it looks close up I must admit that I did think it was a bit too much but it will be mainly covered with artwork with lighter frames ( I collect aboriginal bark art so that might have coloured my choice of paper ) The sofa is a really large ( 8 - 10 seat ) corner sofa, chocolate brown leather, cushioned in chocolate brown and lighter beige ( haven't got photos of it because it's still in storage ) as I've mentioned most of my furniture is mid to dark (20's / 30's ) oak bookcase, bureau and display cabinet ... pretty brown all round I took a couple of photos on the way past earlier but the light wasnt too good and the wide shot I took made the window wall look convex but it really isn't Thanks again for your input...See Morewhich wall to wallpaper?
Comments (22)I wall papered two walls to define this area as a space in an open plan ground floor. I don’t think I would have papered both walls if it was a closed off room. Personally I think one wall is better as a feature. Have you thought about papering the long wall and repositioning your middle soda to face it? Will you have curtains or blinds on your french doors? We decided against green partly as I think it would be too much of a contrast - I don’t want the room to be even more fussy - and partly because we have dark blue sofas, and I’m not a fan of blue and green. The pink is a good rich tone and matches the pink in the wallpaper well. I’ve tried to pick out three key colours for the room - pink, blue and white (or orange), plus some highlight colours - yellow, teal and orange (or white). The thinking behind this is that at the top and bottom of the walls the main colours in the wallpaper are pink, orange and white (which also makes me unsure that green would work at skirting level, while the pink might be less drastic). We already have some pink in the room (lamps, cushions) and it works. So there is a kind of method to my madness! I love the idea of floor-length curtains and was originally planning on that but they can’t be hung around the window seat. Thank you for all the help and advice - I wish I’d come on here years ago as this room has been a real headache! We love the wallpaper though and are determined to make it work. 5 years agoExcuse the washing outside. I just quickly tidied up the room and clicked a pic. We are confused whether to go or not with the wallpaper, so if you all think it's better to stick with paint and some wall art, let me know please.

5 years agoThanks Caroline and TGray, we have as of now decided not to wallpaper that wall and stick to paint that wall. The colour we had chosen for the paint is Dulux Nutmeg white. Can you suggest some ideas to brighten up the room please?
Would this wall art be OK for a start, or is that too colourful?

I'm all for 'if you love a piece of art, go for it and never mind whether it fits in with the decor', but... that piece is rather bright and would fight with the more traditional and beautiful curtains I think. So I'd rather see if you can find something a little more subdued.
Perhaps something like this? Only, art is so personal. What I like, you might not like at all.
These are both from Art.com by June Vess.Or this one from John Lewis. It seems to pick up the colours in the curtains too.

See the difference? I've also picked some cushions in colours that refer to the art and to the curtains. This will tie the room together.
