Hey guys, any suggestions as to what we can do to brighten up the front of our house! thanks Lauren x

Hi Lauren. First thing I’d do is clean the drive (or is the man already doing this;)) Replace the blinds. The vertical ones look dated and quite yellowy, I’d perhaps go for sheer roller blinds or white wood Venetians in both upstairs and down. In the porch if you have no other room to hang coats I’d perhaps use a blind here as well, but if you can hang coats elsewhere a nice vase of flowers would be welcoming. The strip where the pots are looks tidy but add a third pot, I always think things look better in 3’s. Who is responsible for the fence behind the pots, it could do with replacing. If it’s the neighbours responsibility then you might be able to ask them and come up with some arrangement but if not then get some cheap trellis, paint a nice colour and attach on your side. I nice painted trough with some plants in would look perfect under the front window. You could possibly paint the render/pebble dash but it would mean more maintenance. Last thing is you can see down the left of the drive to the rear garden, will you be putting a gate or fence on this side?Just been having a look at your other posts and see that you needed help with the rear garden as well. How’s it going? Or is it still work in progress? Here’s some ideas for trough planters:

Hi Stacy. I think weatherboarding will work for the look you're after. Would you paint it all one colour? My only worry was whether it would all be a bit one dimensional and whether the boarding would make the ground floor look lower ( I've drawn it out though and it doesn't seem to make any difference but that could be my lack of drawing skills!) I wonder if you could add a porch with weatherboard like this with either side of the front rendered and painted? The porch doesn't have to be as complex/expensive as this with the steps etc. I've had a similar size ŵall rendered and it was about £150 from memory so the cost would really be for the porch. Can you or your husband draw? I don’t think this house has zero curb appeal. I also don’t think you have to build forwards to add to the appeal. For me the main thing is the front path and the front door: Assuming budget allows I would spend on hard landscaping- I would put block paving on the roadside gravel area, remove the current steps and front path and instead have a extra wide path (3m wide by the door and driveway reducing to no less than 1.8m in the middle) that curves from the corner of the drive to the front door. I would raise the path to front door level and slope it gently to avoid any need for steps. I would also build this path in the same block paving you choose for the gravel area. If the garden is lower either side of the path then fill the gap with shrubs. I would also consider replacing the front door- in my humble opinion the current door looks dated and if a replacement had a matching panel to the right where the wood cladding is currently the door would appear larger and have more presence. You might also consider a matching garage door. I would also spend on lighting the path and putting downlights in the soffits to light the house at night. A few LEDs will cost very little a year to run all evening. You could also consider having the roof cleaned.

I'd paint the tiles dark grey. What about planting up the two square bits at the front of the drive with something evergreen in the middle and coloured trailing plants at the front. Then some dark grey troughs or planters with a similar planting scheme by the wall. That way, the eye would be drawn away from the actual bungalow itself to the attractive plants which would brighten things up considerably. Get rid of the existing shrubs which look to be old and unruly. Put a large, modern door number (possibly illuminated) on the wall. Look at Etsy - there are loads on there and you'll be spoiled for choice.

Ooh, forgot to mention the outside wall light, a more modern looking one would look better.
