Design ideas for study area
Comments (0)Hi, here is the plan for our loft conversion. On the left of the plan, shaded in grey under the velux windows and measuring 2974 x 3325 is the area we plan to use for a study/work area. This will be accessed via wardrobe doors that will be part of a run of wardrobes along the wall in front measuring 5082. I'm not great at visualising the space from plan and need help with designing what can go in the study space and how it might look. This will be used by me and my husband rather than kids. Thanks in advance!...See MoreWhacky study design help
Comments (7)Hi guys. Thanks for all your really constructive comments. Had some family issues recently so only just got back to this. The jane churchill fabric actually has a black background. There was definitely too much going on in the design. Am now planning on painting the walls black and having a light coloured carpet and keeping the Tudors reconstructed on one wall which will be broken up by the shelves and desks. In terms of room use my nephews will sleep in here when they stay, it won't be used for working for long periods, so I fancy quite a wacky/eclectic space - my equivalent of the fun people can have with a downstairs loo. The orange chairs look overbearing in the photo but ok once you see them in the whole room space. The black wall will have the artwork I've bought on my travels so I see it as a blank canvas for that. It will take some time to get this done but will post pics (and probably ask more advice...) as and when. Thx...See MoreMultipurpose room ideas for study + occasional dining room
Comments (12)I'm with you! It looks as if the door opens against the wall? If so a wall to wall bookcase isn't going to work. Assuming it's enough storage I might look at the matching dresser to go next to the door, you can obviously display books with a couple of ornaments and hide away any study bits and dinner service. The other pic needs a bit of imagination re the fire (!) but I've seen you like ribbon fires, what about installing one in a slim chimney breast on the left as you walk in? An arc lamp over the dining table may also work for some directional light if working etc. I think you also have room to include a chair next to the window. I would just get a big leather mat for the centre of the table so you don't damage it. You can accessorise with any desk bits but also add flowers or a plant, they don't need to sit central on the table. I would get furniture protectors for the chair feet or look at a rug. I'd mark everything out in paper templates on the floor to check everything fits. It looks a great house btw, love the doors and windows!...See MoreStudy room and dining room different
Comments (5)Hi Agyeiwaa, with design there is no right or wrong if you like it, use your home as you want :) If the rooms aren't separated with a physical wall, it's possible to create the illusion of separate areas with things like colour blocking, floor finishes, or even artwork. Let me know if you'd like to discuss further....See MoreUser
