Are steam mops any good?

I use an ordinary Vileda mop and bucket for my hard floors, but wondered if steam mops are any good. I have a small house. Do they clean as well as a simple old fashioned mop, or are they better? Do they remove stubborn marks? Is it going to be one of those things that sits in the garage unused? The reason I’m asking is because I bought a Karcher Window Cleaner and I’m not impressed - it’s quick but leaves streaks, so would value your opinions on steam mops before I waste my money. I’ve read several reviews which vary a lot. Many thanks Houzzers.

I’ve got an X5 which is the bright green one you might have seen advertised with a triangle shaped head which in my opinion is easier to manoeuvre than the rectangle ones.
I like it because I think it is better to clean with fewer chemicals. Is is light and easy to use. It does a good smear free clean. There are will always be some marks that you need an abrasive cleaner to deal with. I tend to spot clean these scuffs then use the steam mop to clean up any residue from the cleaning cream.
Remember to turn the steam down to the lowest setting if you have wood floors.

Having looked at other brands like shark, and Karcher, I found that the vax steam cleaner striked a good balance In terms of cost and good reviews and the various types of attachments it comes with. it also doesn't require detergent (although can be added if you prefer). I also found that the

Hi WickesB&Q and the like are DIY stores that retail products to the end user. These retailers have to adhere to consumer law and your protection has to be covered directly by them as the retailer. Howdens on the other hand are a trade supplier. Which means that their customer (the builder or chippy) who supplies the end user has very little protection by consumer law. The end user is protected by consumer law and the builder or chippy the end user purchases the kitchen from has to adhere to the law as the retailer. I believe not many builders or chippys that purchase trade supplied kitchens and sell on to their customers fully understand this! There are other implications to this trade selling route to market also. Howdens in particular have a stellar high retail price then give 2 quotations to their customer, generally one with around 40% discount for the chippy to show their customer and then the 2nd quotation has a 70 to 80% discount on it! Now I'm not saying that all chippys just give the 40% discount quote to the customer and keep the rest, because in fact I believe that the vast majority give their full discount to their customer, the thing is the whole Howdens business model is set up for deception and to me this is just plain wrong! Anyway, this a side, Howdens range of cabinetry is similar to Wickes and B&Q as in terms of quality they are all bottom of the market with a very limited range of styles and finishes and units to choose from. If you go to the right Independent Kitchen Specialist you will get much better quality of kitchen, design and service, with a lot more choice of styles and finishes and proper advice on all aspects of your project. Sorry Tribbletrouble, I hadn't looked at the site for a while so didn't know you'd responded. Yes she is old (14) but she's always done it and only when you stroke her. Most fun when she shakes her head to give you a mini shower tho! I know it's a sign of health problems sometimes but as she's always done it, I'm sure it's just contentment drool.

Wren kitchens - are they as good as they say?

We've had 2 kitchens from wren. The last house we had for 6 years and the only issue we had was resolved with great customer service. We were so happy with the choice of styles and quality of product that we chose wren again for this house. We've only had it installed about 2 months but the product is great for the price point. Certainly felt much better quality that the ikea ones we considered. First time we used wren fitting which was great, this time we used an independent fitter to keep cost down but you still get the same product guarantees. There were a couple of issues with damaged doors and an incorrect size end panel, all resolved very easily and quickly with great customer service. Yes our designer changed twice during the process as the showroom seems to have high staff turn over but this wasn't as issue to us as we already knew the design we wanted and actually each designer helped to bring a new idea looking at our plans with fresh eyes so in some ways it benefitted us.

Hi - bit late to the party - sorry ! But just popping on to say you don’t seem to have any decor end panels anywhere?! You’ll need those on this range as the fascia is longer than the cabinets, so looks odd without them . Most regulars on Houzz forum will know what I’m about to say next - please be careful with seating behind a hob - hot slashes can cause burns.

I've had a sharp steam mop for 5 years and love it. It helps to keep my grout lines clean between sealing and although not manufacturer recommended, I put a tiny, tiny smidge of white vinegar in every half dozen cleans or so, which keeps the water lines free from limescale and keeps my tiles looking as good as when they were first laid.
