Help! I have 4 colours of tiles for the kitchen and was going to have

Help! Is a set pattern or random the best way to lay 4 different colour rectangular tiles in the kitchen? The regular pattern I had in mind will give a zig- zag effect all down the wall which I don't think I'll like. Thank you.

I'd do a random pattern. Carefully lay it out first, before they go on the wall.

Please move the sink and the dishwasher so they aren't so close to the stove. If you have it in the corner like that it means that only one person can be at the sink and stove at the same time (I inherited this layout in my old kitchen and it was a giant room but only one person could do anything at a time!). And does your peninsula allow enough room for it to be used as a breakfast bar? It looks very tight. I would just have it as a traditional U shape with the counters all against the wall. You could still have a couple of stools and an overhang on that side of the countertops, but have the seating inside the U, not squished against the wall. Good luck!

If you like the paler ones - go with it - and buy a scooba to clean for you ! It's noisy but saves you mopping !! If you went for the ones you don't like as much - it will irk you every time you see them !

If the range is an Aga/Rayburn/Esse type then I would go for cream, it’s a timeless colour and will fit in with many types of kitchen cabinets, they are expensive, heavy and will take some shifting if you decide to change it in the future. A stronger colour that is fashionable will date. If the range cooker is just a bigger cooker then stick with stainless steel.

We are not finished yet but had the same dilema as you. Also a similar shape (L shape around island). We fell in love with a wood herringbone floor but practically it was a bad idea in the kitchen area. We ended up tiling the L shape and (although kitchen isn't finished yet) we are VERY happy with the decision. We would have been paranoid as anything to get water on wood.

Without seeing them I'd say random would be best. Herringbone can look very good with random colours, take a look on our instagram to see a floor we recently posted in this style.
