Comments (10)I tested white porcelain with bright pink hair dye when I bought them for my kitchen and the dye just wiped off. In 7 years the white tiles have never stained. I've dropped a Le Crueset cast iron pan lid and the lid got damaged but not a mark on the tile. I've had some small chips at the edges when furniture has been moved over them but it is minimal damage and the furniture should have been lifted rather than scrapped across the floor. You can buy full bodied porcelain which where the colour of the tile is right throughout the whole tile and if you get chips, you should not see a variation in colour. I love porcelain and would not use ceramic after having it. The best place to go for it, is your local independent tile retailer, rather than the big stores like Topps and Tile Giant. Not all tilers are keen on fixing them it because they are harder to cut and drill than ceramics and they need diamond blades and bits which cost more. Comments (8)My friend has the large white porcelain tiles throughout ground floor of her open plan home with underfloor heating. They look great in a contemporary home - cleaning is not a problem - white/light coloured tiles are easy to keep clean unlike black tiles, which are a nightmare (if they’re polished porcelain). She has 2 kids and 2 dogs and the floor never looks grubby so I would say go for it if you love them. As above posts, the starkness can be broken up with rugs, plants etc....See MoreVandana Prasad

5 years agoI agree with minipie. Given the choice personally I would always go for a parquet floor which is a timeless classic and adds warmth to any space. You could opt for one in engineered wood, porcelain effect or luxury vinyl tile. If you're keen on tiles I would look at a warm concrete effect tile in a large format which give the appearance of texture. These ones are cemento light grey matt by Mandarin Stone but there are lots around.
It would be helpful to see your kitchen and furniture though

5 years agoWe went for porcelain marble tiles. very pleased with it. We went for underfloor (wet) heating. it's very effective. we completed our renovation in Jan' 18. good luck with your project.
