A microwave oven is the device I'd find difficult to live without. Rechargeable batteries are so useful. LED lightbulbs. I can remember the days when the choice was between a 40W, 60W or 100W filament light bulb. Now there is so much choice and variety including ultra low energy bulbs like the G9 LED lightbulb of 1.5W I use in a table lamp (gives out the equivalent of 10W). @whirligig - I'm another fan of using a squeege in the shower. It's so quick and easy to keep the shower clean.

Hi Christine, See picture attached that is a rough sketch I have drawn. It has a very traditional feel with the fluted and moulded panels but you can remove the flutes to plain panels and have shaker panels instead or just all plain! You have a hinged top that would actually be two tops, so it's easier to lift up and gain access to the storage. If you wanted to make this a feature in the room I would definitely say to have this sprayed in a duck egg colour and then a cream cushion on top. Or otherwise have it sprayed in a high sheen white and then a duck egg cushion. Or have it both white with maybe add some duck egg cushions? Let me know what you think!

How lovely to have a porch! I love the hexagonal ones. To prevent them being dazzling, and make it more of a 'designed' feature, you could have a border of plain black tiles - to match the door - then the hexagonal tiles would have the look of a rug on a plain black floor.

Ah, but there are new doors in the dining room already! The photos you showed still had pretty dated doors :-) I think I recognise the new doors from an earlier dilemma? Anyway... looks good. And I still think that you'll gain so much light when you lose the conservatory, that you won't regret it. Even more light when you add something like this only over the width of the living room. But again, not sure if it's worth it?
