Comments (10)I agree with minnie about the curtain fabric. Very elegant. Not so keen on the wallpaper. Two points: I think the valance boxes for the curtains are too heavy and bring down the room. What is it like underneath? Could you remove them to lighten the look (or shorten the box)? Second, have you considered having a different wallpaper? Comments (11)Hi, agree with Minnie101 re the bookcase wallpaper which I have under the stairs, however, I didn't chose the most expensive, lighter one, which I regret, so, if you opt for this, pay more for a lighter one to brighten the wall. Do think about removing the carpet - it's not that hard as I'm about to rip mine out, rub the stairs down and put runners in with 2nd hand wooden stair rods, bought on ebay, from a man who'd bought a stately home with one too many staircases in it. I bought 5 runners based on Mondrian's art which adds colour and hope, with the aid if a staple gun, the runners will fit the stairs and work - otherwise I'll have 5 runners for sale. Good Luck. Comments (32)Hi Catherine, You have a lovely open plan kitchen and lounge, but as you say, it lacks punch and interest. Since you're stuck with the stainless steel kitchen for the time being, you need to work with it and have some fun. A symmetrical arrangement of stainless steel shelves either side of the splash back for the cooker would allow you to put up interesting bottles, plants, china, etc. What about painting this wall a bright colour like Seville Orange from Crown and the other walls in natural white. You could also paint the base of the island in the Seville Orange. In the seating area, use the orange colour and some others like plum or blue-grey in fabric patterns, have cushions made up for the seating area. Also an area rug large enough for the front feet of your sofas and the coffee table to sit on with colour would brighten up this area. It's unfortunate that the TV is blocking a French window. Can it be moved somewhere else, perhaps the bay if the bottom shutters are never opened? This rug is also from La Redoute...See More- 5 years agoHi both, thank you for your comments, it’s really helpful!! I do also prefer the patterned rug but really didn’t want the room to feel busy. We are going to buy some plain faux silk curtains I think, and will have dark wooden floor. Unfortunately I do not have pictures of the room as we haven’t moved in yet! I can show you an example of what the antique mirror will look like , thanks so much! Also, open to ideas on patterned rugs, if you know of any that you think would look great, please let me know!
5 years agoIt's quite hard to find neutral ones that work, yet anyway! Excuse the photoshop but I've added your rug plus a few others to see what you think but not sure if you'll like them. Is the wallpaper going on all walls? Just thinking if so a lighter version of the border rug could work if you add a bit of pattern elsewhere

This is the wallpaper, a better picture than the other one to give you an idea of the colour, it has a very subtle glitter effect.

5 years agoI'd wallpaper all the walls. It's a very subtle, luxurious wallpaper. Think it will be lovely. And I agree: either the rug you chose yourself or this one that Minnie chose...

The wallpaper looks a lot different in the 2nd photo! It works well with your rug. My favourite is the 2nd but we've all got favourites and it's your house! I looks like it will be a very elegant room!

- 5 years agoYes definitely, we can all have different opinions! I’ll ask my partner and show him all 3 rugs and see which he likes best, and my mum!! Yes the wallpaper is very subtle so I think we will paper all the walls. Coffee table hasn’t been chosen yet, however either round dark brown ones or a glass square one with a gold accent edge. Which ideas do you have? Thank you so much!!
