Tiny! front entrance/porch way - need ideas!!

6 years agoI'd paint it a dark grey for drama and add a large (round) mirror with a picture ledge underneath that functions as a drop zone for keys.
Wonder if you have space for coats in one of the storage spaces next to the kitchen? That would free up space in the entry. A glazed door between entry and rest of the house would add light, which makes it look larger.

It gives a slightly modern twist to the house without looking out of place and will let in lots of light. Comments (6)I too have a teeny tiny hall and there isn’t really much you can do, but it can be brightened up with a nice paint job and accessories. I have a small coat rack (3 hooks) in the hall. The stairs I’ve kept clear of pictures as the stairs are so narrow. At the top I’ve a couple of small family pics and a large driftwood heart. My walls are Dulux Egyptian Cotton and the carpet is a stripy one from Crucial Trading. You could put up a nice mirror in the hall, assuming the front door doesn’t bang into it, and maybe another one at the top of the stairs? You are right to stick with paler shades. I know dark shades are in vogue but maybe not where an area has no natural light. It would be grim. Do you have a favourite colour? Palest green, pink or mauve would look good. Plants wouldn’t fare well in a dark area, but there are some fantastic faux ones about that would look good. Comments (12)Depending on budget, I would replace the sliding doors with the original front door and window you could then brick up the window space giving you more storage space internally, then just add a different front door in its place. where the side window is going back towards the bay I would brick up to underside of existing window sill height and keep the window above so you don't loose to much light in the bay window. Comments (9)Hi could you explain which rooms the windows on either side of the front door are for? If those windows are both in use for the interior rooms then you are only going to be able to put a tiny porch on there which might look a bit odd. However if you could build a slightly larger porch or mini side extension that took up a larger space it could be very useful. You will probably need permission though as it is to the front of the property. Has any of your neighbours done anything similar?...See More

I'd take the coats out and put them under the stairs, they're taking up room and covering the lovely panelling you have.
I'd put a mirror on the wall opposite, and tile the floor.
You could even spray paint the front door to match the tile.

I would go for a contrast tile and something light not dark, so you could go with a grey, but it would need a brighter colour in with it, or it will still look dark and drab.

PRO6 years ago- 6 years agoCoats are now in the boiler cupboard. Room has been painted white instead of the weird nude colour it was & Panelling has been painted grey to match the living room to give more of a consistent feeling. Hopefully will look at some tiled flooring or even dark wood (we have a dark wood coffee table, sofa legs, sideboard) over the coming weeks. Really love all the ideas - thank you everyone !!
