Renovating Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Anyone added whirlpool to any bath?

Just renovating our bathrooms and I am keen to have a whirlpool bath but love the look of the egg shaped freestanding baths like this one. Has anyone sent their bath to a whirlpool company to get the best of both worlds?

I have heard of some Bette freestanding baths being sent off to get a hydrotherapy (jet) system fitted, these baths had a thick rim though to allow for the jets, something as thin as the one you posted i don't think would work.

I think all of those should work but have a look. Unfortunately it's not a brand mentioned that often on here re recommendations. I'm good thanks. I'm still ummming and aah'ing whether money for the garden could be better spent on finishing the house and whether we just repoint the brick, returf and sort plants etc. I finally spoke to our duty planning officer at the council a week or so ago (house is listed and in conservation area) as I want to paint the front door and happened to mention painting the inside of the garden ŵall. They said I need full planning permission even though the ŵall is "new"?! It makes absolutely no sense to me as that would suggest anyone needs full planning to paint a ŵall?! I could understand it if they said I need listed building consent but they said I don't

You should speak to a structural engineer with respect to moving the staircase. If the joists in the house run front to back, you will need to find a way of carrying the load of the upstairs of the house (steel beams or footings with load bearing walls) when you cut in the planned staircase. The engineer should be able to give you an indication of cost which will help you decide on your project plans.

Hi Richard, My thoughts, (and I'm not an expert, so just a personal opinion), but I think the wetroom idea will be a total nightmare to keep clean. I would also be concerned that it not would be the safest option with young children in the house. Unless you are going to meticulously dry the floor down after every shower, anyone using the room afterwards, washing their hands at the sink for example would need to walk on a wet and possibly slippery floor. Also not ideal if you walk around the house in socks.... wet feet.. :-/ Even with really good drainage the floor would remain wet for some time after each shower. These concerns may only bother me though, these things are so subjective, but I always consider how much work will be involved in keeping a room clean and looking great....and the fact that the bath would get wet and no doubt splatted with shampoo and shower gel every time someone showered would have me in there constantly cleaning. This option is definitely also the more costly option as tanking would be required, and I you plan to sell in a year or so, I am not sure it would add value equivalent to your spend on the room. I would go for a nice shower over bath arrangement, this can still look lovely and high end. For example:

We’re in the middle of having our bathroom done at the mo and ours is a similar size (although a little squarer) and same ceiling height. We previously had tile on the bath walls to just above the shower head (similar to your 3/4 idea) and then we had tile half way up the other walls, with boxing in under the window (also tiled) to windowsill height to give a usable shelf. The 3/4 tile thing was ok but didn’t look brilliant. Your image looks fab but I think that’s because I think it’s quite a bit taller than 2.7m! We are now going to tile to the ceiling on the bath walls and then not bothering on the other walls. Instead I’ve bought a vanity unit with an upstand and I’ve bought Little Greene Intelligent Matt emulsion for the walls as it’s supposed to be one of the best scrubbable paints for bathrooms (fingers crossed!). Just a thought - could you put the bath along the 1.8m wall where the sink and loo currently are? The shower valve could possibly be sunk into the wall opposite the window? Have you bought your shower and bath filler yet? It sounds exactly like what we’ve gone for. I think my plumber is currently cursing me as I type!!!
