Bathrooms Renovating Design Dilemma

Urgent! Bathroom design / fix help!

Hi, really looking for some help from the wise Houzz people! ... our bathroom has turned into a little location where bathroom items have been placed but doesn’t look coherent as a bathroom! I wanted the bath to put central to the room, however it has been placed to the side as the pipework for sink and toilet are so far along that there isn’t space for bath to move up! ... wondering if you have any ideas to get the bathroom looking decent without too much tile ripping out etc which would be required to move the sink and toilet up? Please please help! Thank you!!!

Hi Anjali,

You could streamline the WC, basin and some shelves into one whole unit along the same wall, without having to damage the tiles. The cistern would hide in the unit and it would be just be the pan on display. You would have to replace the WC. This would give it a more hotel and neater look. You can buy basin and WC units to match and perhaps get your builder or carpenter to build some shelves to store towels by the bath. This way you are not spending too much on replacing all the items. Would the sink and radiator be able to be swapped? I think you can remove single tiles rather than retile the whole lot. Sorry I can't photoshop (plus I just used pictures i had saved ) but if you did want/have to leave as is, I think an oversized plant could work in that corner and then you lose the awkward Corner. Might be worth trying.

Hello comegetme, I think tiles and paint can work well... You could even have two colours... Like the wooden blind for the window and you've pretty much nailed the placement... What about having a wall hung loo.... This gives an even gr8r level of space and means if it's boxed in.. you get another shelf. For folded towels? Reed sticks... What about thinking more on the spa theme with stone tiles.... Stone flooring... Tile Magic has a really amazingly affordable range.. (see image) but get samples! With marble or any stone- it must have a protective coating/seal which is not visible but it will mean that the marble or stone is protected.. There are some nice slates too, that could be nice... I rather like these marbles below, or you could choose a travertine, or a marble looking tile... From £1.70 or so a tile... It's probably the most affordable I have ever seen... I would say get samples of any you like and sit them in the room and see how they work with the light... Even if you compliment it with a painted wall....Choosing accessories very carefully can also bring a really luxurious feel on a small budget.. What about a bamboo ladder for towels....... The shower screen I would say doesn't need to move, you just step in from the bottom end.. and I'd choose straight edges and have an invisible fixing.. Ie no chrome edges... : ))

Hello `Sarah, I think the kitchen is fantastic!!! Please keep it!!! So I have some suggestions.. I think it has some great elements.. The design and colour of the cupboards plus those tiles are really fabulous, also love the floor too.. I'd keep it all!!! The top cupboards are gr8 without glass and your image is very different and dare I say not nearly so interesting.. Maybe you can celebrate the uniqueness of it! Minnie is right to suggest moving the cabinets closer to the ceiling (it has been lowered in part but I would leave it as is) easily done without damage and you can move the boiler in line with them.. .. This is a gr8 idea as it will feel a little more open and spacious.. you could then paint above the tiles a lovely warm chalky white or off white.. and any other wall areas.. It will balance the units out and I would definitely keep the colour the same here top and bottom... If you don't want to change the current configuration too much and keep costs down, I would buy a free standing chrome range oven like Smeg dual fuel and extractor Aeg angled hood and fit in same place as current oven.. Dualit toaster and kettle Bugatti Vera in chrome.. Angled extractor hood Aeg and a smeg 50's white fridge would be nice here too! With the fridge I feel it could stand at the end of the counter top.. Leave the sink exactly as it is and the boiler too, all you then need to do is put a cabinet shell and door on the front of the opening where fridge was and paint it and the bits of cabinet that are white to the shade of yellow and voila! Anther storage space for the dishwasher. I would move that metal shelf or add another if you like it.. .. Add a polycarbonate pendant Creatures by Nigel Coates which would look amazing with the kitchen.. Also the kitchen is definitely not past it!!! You have a fairly small bathroom, which is why the tiles have been kept neutral and light. What's missing is some items that will pop. You could spring for a nicer sink arrangement. The cabinet around a pedestal was never a good look. Is there enough room between the bath and the opposite wall to turn the sink and move it towards the toilet to give you more worktop space and storage at the end of the bath? If not, keep the sink where it is, but use a vanity to look more fitted. The bath can be altered to provide more storage. Although this image shows open storage, you could have a panel front created with a drop down panel on a push fitting http://www.dovcorbathrooms.co.uk/blog/view/a-great-bath-storage-idea Changing the radiator to a heated towel ladder you will be able to hang colourful towels. Put up a hand towel bar or ring above the right hand side of the sink. Get rid of the toilet roll stand and hang the roll from a holder that matches the hand towel rail. Store extra rolls under the sink. Paint the long wall in one of the colours in the border tile, perhaps a richer beige. An interesting large mirror would visually widen the room. Alternatively, try a pale blue wall colour and richer mid blue towels mixed with brown towels. A light over the sink area would vastly improve that corner. The floor does nothing for the room. Why not choose a vinyl floor from Amtico or Karndean in a dark wood board effect? The tiles in your bathroom can be skimmed over by a professional fitter and the new floor laid directly on top. The thing to bear in mind is that you are talking about putting a freestanding bath in one of these rooms. Most properties would have a shower in the En-suite and a bath in the Bathroom,, yes, but this is because a normal bath would be able to have a shower over it and a shower screen which will mean that anyone using that room will have the option of either bath/shower. A freestanding bath is slightly different because it is very difficult to put a shower over a freestanding bath. You can get combined ones that have a shower with them or ones that look freestanding at the front but are fitted into a corner which you can put a curtain and a shower over, but they are few and far between. You really need to think about who will be likely to be using each room and what they would prefer. If it is going to be for guests and you don't know then really the best option for ease of use is to have a bath with shower over in the Main Bathroom. You can then decide whether you want a bath or a shower in your En-Suite depending on what you prefer to use. It's already tight, it would look silly moving the toilet and basin toward the shower and putting the bath central. Even if you could squeeze it in the lip of the bath looks like it would almost be touching the basin edge creating a corner of the room you can't reach.

I don't think you need to worry about putting it central even if you did it wouldn't line up with the window so something has to be off. I've literally just had my bathroom done and my bath is in the corner like yours on the same wall as the toilet. It's off centre from the wall and the window but looks fine. All you need to do is fill the corner, I like the plant idea but you could also use some sort of storage unit

One other thing is that you could perhaps move the freestanding? taps to the corner edge of the bath. I did this and think it looks good. That way nothing is central but your taps might not be high enough
