It's a lovely light room but certainly a tricky one to furnish given the configuration of door with windows. Lesley345 is right that the easiest way to deal with it would be to consider it as a room of two halves to either side of the door. Then you can give each end a function so potentially the area to the left of the door where the TV is now could be a seating area and could take a corner sofa, while the opposite end could be more about watching the TV in the alcove and have a couple of comfortable chairs which could be easily adjusted in a situation where the TV was off and you had a larger group of friends/family around. you would then want to tie it all together by using a large rug to visually bring it all together. You could also look at having a projector rather than a TV and using the large white wall at one end to project onto. If watching TV isn't actually that important to you then you could create a seating area centrally to the room with the windows as the focal point and statement storage units/art work/piano at the ends of the room. It's not necessary to have furniture backed up against the walls and placing items centrally instead could help free up the way you consider the space. The key thing to do is to consider the activities that you want to do in the room most of the time and then decide on the furniture you need to support those activities, particularly considering ways to make things flexible and possibly multifunctional. Hi Amanda The thing to think about is how you use the space (and what you really want to use space for) - is the dining room used every day or just at Christmas; in the living room do you use it to watch tv or mainly to sit around doing crafts or chatting to friends. Also it looks like the dining room is the bigger of the two rooms? I personally wouldn't remove the doors, because although it looks cool in photos from California, in the UK the reality is that it just makes hard to heat and noisy rooms. If like most of us the dining room is not used for dining every day I would consider swapping it into the smaller room and incorporating storage for a home office or crafts room there to make the space useful all year round. Then the living room can have the space it needs to have the two sofas either at right angles to each other or facing each other and get the tv in a nice position to view it or hide it in a cupboard if it's not watched much. If you are going down the grey route I wouldn't go crazy with it, farrow and ball's 'shaded white' looks cream in daylight but grey under artificial light. Whatever colour you choose I would paint both rooms the same to give some continuity because you can see through those doors.

Hi Miss, If you're installing a wood burner or multi-fuel appliance in your property then you will have to comply with Building Regulations and HETAS. The maximum horizontal run for a chimney on a solid fuel appliance is 200mm or 8". This is because flue gas wants to rise as its hot and having a large horizontal run in a chimney can cause it to stall and not work properly. In terms of installation of a twin wall chimney system in your property it is strongly recommended that the chimney runs internally. This is to do with maintaining the flue gas temperature within the chimney itself to ensure it draws properly. Chimneys which are run externally don't work as effectively and in the colder winter months can cause issues when lighting the stove. Chimneys should always be kept as vertical as possible and if you can have a straight run going all the way through then its considered to be the best chimney to have on a solid fuel appliance, bends and elbows will cause resistance and limit your draw.
