Garden Lighting Design - Top Tips!
Comments (8)Nice post. Yes, I agree. Particularly, re: number 4, customers often purchase lights with silver fittings to go with other features but it's far better to go for black or olive green etc., as these appear almost 'invisible' in the garden. Far better to accentuate stunning planting or a beautiful sculpture, than have a garden filled with shiny metal fittings....See MoreIs my garden design just naff?
Comments (27)I am a retired garden designer. Sorry I don’t have time to read all the comments, so apologies if I am repeating what others have said. I think your plans show that you have thought this out and worked hard. I would n’t have a brick arch. It will look heavy. I can’t gauge the scale, but your borders look as if they may be under a metre wide in some places. If a border is 60 cm wide you will probably get in a climber at the back and a perennial layer at the front. It won’t look ....substantial but may just about fill the bill. It seems as if something less than this is what you will look out on from your patio. The border around the edge of the lawn tapers to a point. Generally speaking there isn’t really a plant that you can put there and expect to form that shape. Sorry that is all I can remember without referring back to the drawing which doesn’t seem possible without posting or deleting! Good luck and have fun....See MorePaving colour for driveway - To match or not to match?
Comments (138)These are my Japanese acers, I selected the shorter varieties since the drive isn't huge. The red one is approximately 10yo, the other two are 6-7 yo. They grow quite slow and stay compact,in my opinion. I tried to take the photos in front of our Cooper so you get the idea of the sizes. They are Garnet (2+ m) Bi Ho (2m) and Winter Flame (1.5m and it grew 50cm during the last three years). Acers can be shaped, I'll be removing some lower branches to add some structure. They are gorgeous in autumn and passers-by often stop to admire....See MoreLiving Area - Picking a colour palette?
Comments (5)I do prefer the Next range over the Dunelm one (although both offer a great range of products and I’m sure I’ll still get a few pieces from both of them), I’ll probably go for the Bronx stuff as far as furniture goes because I prefer the industrial inspiration it takes and it might lean a little more masculine (the lift-up coffee table will be great for WFH... shame it’s got such a long delivery time). How many items would you say is required to complete the room, I was thinking coffee table, tv unit, bookcase, dining table and then see how that all comes together with a couch and chair (possibly a footstool too). So if I was to go warmer with the floors and walls what colour sofas would be advised and what accent colours would you go for instead of blues (I’m guessing blues would be out since they reside in the cooler side of the palette?). I have a fair few house plants so there will be a nice natural presence in the room, a selection of greens might work... I’ll probably try to stay away from the pastel blues and pinks as it might make the home lean a little too feminine (single 30+ male). I think brass or copper would work well for metals with black accessories. I’ve never heard of a jute rug, I’ll need to look it up. Also when it comes to curtains and window furnishings I was thinking of getting perfectFIT blinds for the window and doors (likely the entire house actually:- https://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/perfect-fit-pleated/24568/duolight-grey.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw9YWDBhDyARIsADt6sGaBEKGL9QPZWqxUsS8E4pM_8T_PbG6LGbHxjFBs7GSdgt-x8GVdw4saAsrFEALw_wcB), I’m guessing an off white although the window frames will be white inside so possibly in white or would that cause too much of a contrast with the rest of the room? With these types of blinds in place I was still tempted to dress the window // doors but probably with something more light and airy rather than traditional curtains (possibly across the top and just down one side... I think I’ll have to come back to this part). Thanks for the reply,...See MoreBlue Cube Pools
