This has got our office MASSIVELY divided. Some people don't think it's Christmas without a real tree, others love the simplicity, symmetry and affordability of a faux.
Which do you go for in your house?
Real or Fake?

Comments (17)Thanks Gary - looks great and it's made me rethink how viable my budget really is...As we also need to decorate, do some replastering, new skirting boards, maybe do some re-wiring, get a new carpet and some Roman blinds made for the bay window. Some great money saving tips, thanks Steve. I think I'm going to get a fireplace guy to come and look at how viable the fireplace is in terms of having a wood burner and how much it would cost to change it and then have a think. I'm also loving the idea of getting a cheap wooden fire surround -maybe a secondhand one off eBay and painting it up in a contesting colour - like the attached image but not the same colours - probably a vibrant orange.. I also love 1940's and 1950's tiled fireplaces as would have probably been there originally - but the repro versions or decent old ones are so privy.....See MoreTrees along boundary - should they be the same type or not?
Comments (11)Hi Gabby, I've chosen trees that will be low maintenance. The Acer silhouette is a narrow tree and grows to about 4 metres which is enough to provide screening without spreading or being too over-powering. I'm not sure about the Arbutus, I think it is going to be a few years before I have to think about pruning but I'm hoping it will grow upwards rather than outwards. If it does need pruning I'll speak to my neighbours and offer to cut their side of it. The other thing I considered was the benefits of evergreen trees, not only do they provide privacy all year round but they also won't cause alot of additional trips to the recycling centre in autumn to dispose of the leaves....See More
