Paint or paper chimney breast? And layout help
Comments (20)Going back to original options with the sofas opposite each other, can you fit a tv unit under the stairs as that could look quite good? With regard to the L shaped arrangement with the tv on the unit, you could drill a circle in the back of the unit and store the play station and sky in there. Another option which I think could work is to swap the dining and living round as the dining end looks bigger. Have one sofa on the kitchen wall with the other opposite ( place the sofas about a foot from both walls) and hang the tv above the radiator. You could make a feature of the room with a built in tv, Sky and radiator cover, as per example attached from Andre hodges. That should still give you at least 4ft for a clear corridor to the kitchen ( on the basis the 7ft measurement you gave was from the side of the kitchen door!) I wouldn't paper the recesses now I've seen the whole room. Maybe considering papering or painting the kitchen wall to Bring the wall in so as to make it feel wider and give more interest to the lounge....See MoreWhat to do with our chimney breast?
Comments (9)Hi, I painted the fireplace grey and the same colour as your walls, to show you...My reasoning for painting it the same as your walls is that you will probably have the door in white or possibly another colour, which makes it quite a stand out feature. That's one. And then you will add furniture to the room too, maybe a rug, curtains... so you'll be adding a lot of different colours anyway. So I'd keep the rest fairly calm. And I really don't think that the blue fireplace makes it less of a feature. But there we are. It's up to you :-)...See MoreMirror advice for fireless chimney breast
Comments (3)hello, Oh yes how strange re it only being a narrow depth! Are you are semi-detached?? Wonder if the previous owners have built the alcoves out as some houses (like ours) are single skin between them so no cavity.... Have you thought about adding a decorative fire surround or shelf anyway to give the wall more purpose and make a feature of it? You could always hang an electric flat panel fire in there as well which is what I would do. The round mirror would look nice and break up the straight lines (we had a round one on ours) if you have a straight fire underneath...See MoreI need help with an issue with a chimney breast thats had a gas fire.
Comments (0)Today I've started stripping off the wallpaper from my living room in my new property. I've managed to get past the chimney breast, but I've hit a snag regarding the chimney breast as there used to be a gas fire installed and the right side of it is battened and boarded up, with the bottom part of it still loose as it contains the old gas lever for what was the gas fire. The boarding starts off straight and then becomes uneven leaving a 1/8 inch gap between the baton and the lower end. Does anyone have any idea of how to rectify this issue as I'm painting the living room in two separate colours with the chimney breast as a feature wall....See More- 6 years ago
