Paint or paper chimney breast? And layout help
Comments (20)Going back to original options with the sofas opposite each other, can you fit a tv unit under the stairs as that could look quite good? With regard to the L shaped arrangement with the tv on the unit, you could drill a circle in the back of the unit and store the play station and sky in there. Another option which I think could work is to swap the dining and living round as the dining end looks bigger. Have one sofa on the kitchen wall with the other opposite ( place the sofas about a foot from both walls) and hang the tv above the radiator. You could make a feature of the room with a built in tv, Sky and radiator cover, as per example attached from Andre hodges. That should still give you at least 4ft for a clear corridor to the kitchen ( on the basis the 7ft measurement you gave was from the side of the kitchen door!) I wouldn't paper the recesses now I've seen the whole room. Maybe considering papering or painting the kitchen wall to Bring the wall in so as to make it feel wider and give more interest to the lounge....See MoreChimney Breast - Yes or No?
Comments (8)Thank you both. Jen P, we would have loved a wood burner but because of the flue it wouldn't work. We also considered an inset electric but to get one that looks anything close to real we would be looking at £500 plus , basically what would only be used for the visual effect rather than heat we really can't justify such a cost. The budget has already been blown! We also considered creating an opening and filling with logs and fairy lights but that's only possible if we have the false wall. Dog temporarily replaced by child! :) He'll be back.. Minnie101, thank you I think your reference to the roof might have solved why it looks ok on floorplanner but not in the actual house....See MoreWhat do you think? Paper chimney breast or back wall?
Comments (7)The more 'colourful' the colours are, the more they start to jump about and interact, What this means is that the more blue your walls look, the more orange your sofa will look. The bluer your walls, the more orange your floor will look etc. Warm and cool colours - it's all relative. A hot orange will look cooler when white is added. A blue will look warmer if it is dark etc. You can see from the image below that the contrast in hue between the hague blue and the sofa and floor is quite stimulating, I wouldn't think this room would be improved with a patterned wallpaper. I agree with Daisy that a colour from the paper would make it coherent....See MoreI would love to paint chimney breast wall and 2 alcoves same colour
Comments (7)Remember to look at the aspect of the room, before going for a strong teal colour. It’s extraordinary how different the colours look, depending on whether the room faces north, south, east, or west. And don’t forget nighttime with electric lighting. Also, if your sofa is a deep teal, you could choose a much paler aqua/greeny blue, for your feature walls, and the other walls maybe an even paler shade than those, if your room is light. On the other hand, if the room is a bit gloomy, you could use a contrasting and complementary colour for the feature walls, such as a deep gold, a warm peach, or apricot, or even a warm soft pink (similar, maybe, to F&B’s Setting Plaster or Pink Ground). Depends upon what colours you actually like, as you have to live with it. Teal is basically a blue green, so if not using teal and its paler tones for walls, look for colours that are warm, on the opposite side of the colour wheel....See MoreJules Mc
