Does anyone know where I'd get shelving like this?

I've searched everywhere but am failing to come up with anything - other than custom built (probably too expensive) I wonder if anyone has seen anything like it for sale?

This article may be of help... it suggests that the wall storage system is adapted from one of Ikea's kitchen ranges... it may be worth going into a local Ikea and asking one of their designers if something like this would be possible with their products!

Many thanks - I have looked at Ikea online but can't see anything like it - you're right I need to take the photo in to store and get some advice.

Hi. If you paint the end ŵalls either a darker or warmer shade it will go some way to correcting the proportions of the room (Or if you like stripes you could add a striped rug or wallpaper). I must admit I would probably keep the chimney breast whether you change the fire or not, they add character and you can add consoles, cabinets, chairs etc which tend to look better in alcoves than flat ŵalls. I would also use a textured wallpaper in the long ŵall colour to add interest. I think the issue is the lack of furniture in the middle of the room which would make it feel wider. Could you add a coffee table? Is the sofa to scale in the 1st pic? I would pull it away from the ŵall even if it just inches (will help with radiator too, is that the only one you have in the room as it doesn't seem big enough?). I had a look in your Ideabook and it looks as if you want a windowseat? If so, i'd move the sofa so it's opposite the fire and put the armchair at the opposite end of the room and use a rug to define that seating area with the front feet of the seating on the rug. If you want the tv over the fire I'd put it on a tilting, swinging arm.

Tracey, those are encaustics which tend to be 18-20mm in depth, your wood will most likely be engineered ply if you have underfloor heating and depths vary 12mm upward. If one or the other substrate needs to be built up to accommodate the other that is possible. Be aware there will be some movement between the two, more so if you are using long boards, less with parquet, so consider how best to deal with any movement or expansion between the two. There are plenty of products available for this. Make sure your encaustics are sealed correctly. You could also find the cleaning regimen of the two finishes may be very different. Lithoflin for encaustics - and oil/wax for an oiled floor, that's not a great combination, so perhaps an easy maintenance wood might be better in the long run.

Thanks for the tip, Iona. Unfortunately, they don't have anything that looks like the picture. Pammy, thank you for the technical term for the carpet type. This might help me narrow my search a wee bit. Will look forward to hearing from anyone else who has seen anything a carpet that's anything like the picture!

They are two different plants aren't they? I have one of the top ones. Very easy to care for - I water it about once a week! It seems to love the sunshine - sprouted loads of new leaves this summer.

To me it looks like a standard kitchen cabinet with one horizontal shelf with the addition of a few extra dividers and shelves. This should be easily sourced from any builders merchant but your fitter will likely have to cut the extra shelves and dividers to size.

You might be able to create something similar using the Ikea Eket storage items.
