I am refurbishing worktop and splashback of a white gloss kitchen with grey wood flooring

The same worktop material was used for the splashbacks. It is a composite stone - Caesarstone / Silestone type product.

How about making a concrete worktop. This isn't beyond the ability of a fairly competent DIYer. There are lots of YouTube videos to help and the worktops can be practically any colour and add a personal touch. The materials are extremely cheap. We have recently made concrete tops for within our larder to see whether is really as easy as it looks, and are delighted with the results.

Hi Bry R! Choosing a kitchen worktop is a very personal choice where a couple of factors come into play. You will need to consider and prioritise: budget, look/feel, durability, usage/sensitivity. Leaving budget out for a second we reviewed your 3 materials Quartz, laminate and concrete for you: Quartz - Beautiful stone that can be used anywhere, even near the hob and sink. On the durability side, it is a very tough stone ( especially in composite form) that is more durable than many other natural stones. Also potential scratches can be sanded out if needed! Very easy to maintain. Concrete - It looks amazing. But in our opinion, a kitchen is more practical than just an aesthetic feature… but this is very personal! Concrete is more sensitive to staining of food and water. So either you need to use a food-grade sealer, get out the chopping board, or order takeaway! Concrete can also be sensitive to scratching. Last but not least given that it is heavy, you might need to rethink about your cabinetry for reinforcement. Laminate - Very flexible and can be used for all surfaces. Can also mimic any natural materials you like ( even concrete!). It is very sensitive to heat and you cannot test your vegetable cutting on it! But apart from that it is pretty resistant to stains and chemicals. Its cost even allows you to change the look of your kitchen with just changing the worktop in couple of years time, without breaking the bank. If your budget stretches it, we would advise the quartz unless you love the look of concrete and you don’t mind giving a bit more care and love to this stunning beauty in your home! You could go for any colour really, as the units are neutral and so is the floor. Granite and Quartz come in many shades, but I think the lighter shades are nicer and easier to live with. I can’t see your samples very well as they are reflecting too much light. I also like the green organic looking shades, see below, but whether you will tire of them is another matter! I have cream units too with an oak worktop. They do have to be re-oiled every 3-6 months but that’s no real hardship. However, granite is much tougher.

quartz/ marble worktops what’s the best colour

I have white quartz on the worksurfaces around the kitchen and carrara marble on the island. It depends on how careful you are. The marble is very delicate but beautiful. The quartz looks quite plasticy next to it. I prefer the marble but would maybe go for a honed finish next time. Polished marble is more beautiful though! Personal choice. Look at as many examples as you can first.
