Can you use black and Decker drill bits A7235-XJ with a black and Decker drill BDCHD18V

In my limited experience I find most drill bits are universal and fit most drills. I recently bought a ‘cheap as chips‘ Argos drill and bought Wilco drill bits. Fitted and worked perfectly, granted I only do basic drilling of walls for pictures etc.

Hi, To answer your questions, and play your fears, there is no problem with using plastic and copper pipe together. The joints that are used are suitable for both types of pipe. Within the joint, there is a serrated washer that stops the joint coming apart and a rubber O Ring that acts as the seal. This O Ring will allow expansion and contraction of the pipe without the seal breaking. The metal insert that your builder mentioned is used inside the plastic pipe to stop it deforming near the O ring. In general terms, plastic pipe should be used for all plumbing where is isn't visible and copper for visible pipes. The main reason for this is that plastic pipe can sag with temperature and this is aesthetically unpleasing. There is no loss in performance with this. Also, plastic pipe fittings are quite large so again are unappealing to look at. That said, plastic pipe has many advantages over copper - it is flexible so can be used in holes through joists and generally, there will be less joints. Here is a bit more info. from one of the plastic pipe manufacturers: http://www.johnguest.com/about-us/speedfit-technology/ The other thing to note is that as plastic pipe is not conductive, it reduces the risk of electrocution from faults caused by live parts in a bathroom. I will try not to get too bogged down in the detail here, but fitting plastic pipe may or may not affect any 'supplementary bonding' of pipework in the bathroom. Supplementary bonding is where a separate earth cable connects all of the exposed metal work in a bathroom to earth via the wiring in the room. It is visible as a thick green and yellow cable which will be clamped t the exposed pipework in the bathroom. The issue with this is dependent upon which edition of the wiring regulations your bathroom is wired to. If you are having new wiring, you will be fine as any new wiring is more than likely to be protected by an RCD and supplementary electrical bonding is no longer required in a bathroom. However, if the wiring has been conducted to an earlier version, you may possibly end up with a situation where the exposed metal parts in the bathroom are no longer bonded back to earth and this can be potentially dangerous. If you have any doubts about this, ask an electrician to have a look. But, in general, there are no issues with mixing copper and plastic pipe : ) I hope that helps?! Peter

Floating and glue down engineered oak flooring - can it work together?

Hi All - hope everyone's projects are going to plan. I'd be seriously grateful for any advice on (yet again) engineered oak flooring installation since I cant find any threads with my unique problem, aargh! I am about to install an engineered oak floor (14mm thick with 3mm wear layer, 1.9m fixed length and 220mm wide). We are planning to use floating method in kitchen/diner since there is underfloor heating and a concrete subfloor, but glue-down in the hallway and living room off of the hall where we have old floorboards that we have levelled off with chipboard. We will be using underlay in the kitchen/diner. Entering the house, we have an uninterrupted line-of-site from front door to bifolds at back of kitchen/diner and are trying to keep the flow by having same wooden flooring throughout. So my questions I would love any advice on: 1. Has anyone used both methods in the same area? Apart from all the concerns about the level not matching, I'm also wondering about difference in 'ageing' since the floating over underfloor heating might separate at the seams more than the glued-down. Especially since it will not really be 'floating' since all the kitchen units (we have not put kitchen in yet) will pin it down to the subfloor - making separation even worse? Also, will the difference be very obvious walking over one vs the other - I read that floating can sound hollow when walking on it? 2. Any tips on type of glue / adhesive to use? Looking for something with a moisture barrier that is easy to clean. 3. I was advised not to glue T&G together unless floor is floating so if I glue them together on the floating section and not on the glue-down section, will this cause even more problems? Any advice is most appreciated, I'm trying to remain calm but the more I read the more confused I get!! Thanks everyone

Hi Rachel, Yes, contemporary and traditional can certainly work together in the context you describe although it's hard to say without seeing a picture of your current bathroom. Hello, I have just read your remit again. You are hoping for two bedrooms, reception, kitchen and bath/shower room but you cannot extend further than existing bathroom. I am really not sure that is feasable. Switching the bed and reception around would give you access to the rear from the reception with one bedroom at the front. You could move the bathroom to the middle (on the other side of the relocated bedroom) then combine what remains of the kitchen with the old bathroom (squaring it off with an extension to make a kitchen with a small dining space looking oit to the rear. All this is dependent on structural walls and cost implications. Your home would be better configurated but it would still be a one bedroomed flat.
