Does anyone in the South West work with any decent muralists?

Hello! I'm working on a project where I would love to do a mural in someone's hall. Does anyone know a muralist who could work on a house in Bristol? thanks so much

Hi I would put a planted green screen of a nice flowering hedge which also has berries in the winter like Berberis. It will give you privacy and its not totally solid as a fence or wall would be and will give a much softer look. It also gives security as it has small prickly barbs You say your window sills are too narrow to take window boxes so why not put a nice long wrought iron planter under the full width of the window, attach to the wall, (It looks like the windows are quite low) or if not put a free standing planter under the window. I would not get rid of the front lawn and just have concrete slabs as you already have all the drive paved, it will just look like to much concrete and harsh unless you add some plants or create maybe a circular flower bed Too much concrete prevents good drainage too Adding a porch would be a great idea, perhaps just glass which will give a modern contemporary feel Also once you have changed that paint colour it will look a lot better

In the Summer the countryside is almost unbeatable. The walks, just the beauty of it all changes your whole perception of the world for the better. There are downsides though. We live down a narrow dead-end lane with only a handful of houses but it's not as quiet as you might think, what with walkers, who think no pavements mean it's ok to walk 3 abreast in the middle of the road, horse riders who use their high position to look over your fence and have a nosy, 'sat nav says so' idiots (FOUR signs at the end of the road that tell them to turn back and they STILL carry on) and cyclists who think that because it's the countryside they can ride at high speed around winding bends and look disgusted that someone may be walking along the road. Also in the Winter it can feel isolated and lonely, with frequently flooded lanes and virtually non-existent public transport. A car is essential, deliveries unreliable and amenities non-existent but even with all the negatives there's something about looking at a stunning view that can whisk all your cares away in an instant. Anyone just used glass instead of velux for rooflights?

OnePlan did the drawings for our kitchen :-) Her 3D version of the drawings allowed us to see how it would look in real life, which was a big plus and helped to make the decision to go for this layout. Our previous kitchen was a U-shape, so the change was pretty big. Glad you like it :-) Our windows are Velux. Can't remember the size, will have to ask the other half when he comes home. They are all remote controlled. We never considered just glass for the roof. I don't know why not. Didn't cross our minds. I haven't noticed any bleaching problems, but then the kitchen Velux windows are north facing, which I think yours would be too, so the light isn't that bright. The ones facing south, above our dining area, are shaded by a big tree. You could have remote controlled shades if the light would be too bright. We have remote controlled shutters on the outside (that I only close when it storms, because we have loads of trees surrounding the house). I've included a pic of the Velux spotlights too. I don't know at what angle they should be for the self-cleaning glass to work, but I would have thought our roof pitch is pretty normal.

Anyone got solar control glass ? Pergola or Brise Soleil Instead ?

Thanks for reply, seems very few people have it but the more I read on the amount of glass we are looking at in a south west orientation we will either need to use solar control glass or put quite an overhang in either with a brise soleil or pergola, always thought south would have suffered more but now understand during the worst heat of day from say 1-4 the sun beats directly on those windows quite low in sky, last week has been roasting sitting where those windows will be so been bit of an eye opener. Shame there does seem to be a bit of grey tint as for a good portion of year the solar gain wouldn't be a problem and of course in winter an advantage. With the amount of people going for big sliders and bifolds thought there would be more people experiencing overheating but maybe over thinking it ! In answer to skylight question we wouldn't be putting any in even though a single storey where all the glass is going, some of what we are doing is replacing a conservatory which was roasting and most of the heat seemed to come in through the roof or it certainly felt like it.
