Colour help for front room
I am about to put in some simple electric blinds on this bi fold door, the curtains have to go!. i like the idea of it being streamlined and simple . However i am keen to do something with the walls? or even one feature wall? the paint is fawn and overall there is a nice caramel feel but I would like to make it look a bit more interesting.. The blind will be white/cream and i was thinking of painting all 3 walls white with the back wall a sand stone? ish.. . I would love the paint it dark grey but the sofa is a straw/caramel colour? any creative options would be warmly welcomed.

Comments (4)Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light...See MorePlease help with front door/room dilemma
Comments (8)Hello Miriam, What a lovely cottage. I would use the front room a reception, mudroom / library, occasional writing. It looks like a lovely bright room. It can be used as a dining space for occasions to accommodate a big table if needed. You could put a folding table between the chimney which can act as a console when not in use. An internal window could be added to the space to the right of the stairs opposite the entrance door to bring some more light into the back of the house. In the back room if you put TV above the chimney. You could have a breakfast bar table with couple of bar stools. 5 years agoI think your room is pretty streamlined and simple already. Love the curtains. I like Carolina‘s idea of denim drift on the sofa wall and seeing you already have blue cushions it will look rather nice. Your room is so neutral, you could add almost any shade to it, but I thinker the softer shades would work well. The room has a coastal vibe, so I think sandy shades on the walls will work, as well as blue. if you go down that route, perhaps a larger jute rug would cosy it up a bit as they are all in that lovely sand/wheat colour. Here’s some ideas.
