help wallpaper / livingroom ideas

hubby keen to try his inner designing skills and brought dark wall paper for the living room. Am not convinced abt this as don't want everywhere looking dark. we already have black curtains, tv stand and chairs. I would love wall paper ideas that i can play with

Thanks @celerygirl. which wall and what color is my dilema right now. 3sides of the room either have a window or door in them and d last wall which is ideal but it's where d 3 seater is facing the tv

I think the mantelpiece would look good painted white, although if you want contrast you could consider matching other wood types you have in the room, e.g. furniture, doors etc. A word of warning about painting the bricks, they are heavily textured so won't be easy to paint. You will need to thin the paint and do at least three coats using a brush. There are probably some guides on doing this on the internet. A masonry paint is best. Not sure if the fire itself is used and is being kept, but it looks rather dated and could be worth replacing at a later date, or if not used, getting removed by a plumber, and being replaced by decorative pillar candles or logs...just a thought. Hubby doesn't like the patterned one Kerry. His preference is to have the chimney breast in red and the rest in something plain like below for the alcoves and other walls. Would welcome your thoughts.Also we are planning an electric insert fire on chimney breast and have posted a separate question on that. Do you think we doing the right thing as we would need to widen the hole where it slots in ? Just thought it would add to modernisation of room. Suite and carpet would have to wait for another year . Thanks.

I think if you're going to pull of dark walls, then they should be used as a back drop with lighter or coloured furniture.

I think the wallpaper is going to clash with the curtains if i'm honest.

I'm not against dark, and if you fancy a dark wall, then use paint not paper, it's a smallish room and can't take the busyness. Go for a mid grey plain wall on which to put the t.v against. Then add in your lighter coloured textures. I'd change the curtains for plain too, if it were me. Plus, i'd find some nice blinds for the other windows.

What's the sofa like?

The red, black and grey look always reminds me of the the cheap duvet covers that were around in the 80's, which is why for me, I think it dates a room.

If going dark, go plain and tasteful with some muted colour and texture thrown in :-

Dare I say it? Yes, as my dad would have said, it looks like a tart's boudoir. Hideous.
