best layout for living room/kitchen
Comments (12)I know what you mean about taking advantage of the view, but I think you'll find that you'll still be able to see it from most of the couch even if it is against the wall. With a room that wide, I wouldn't waste all the space that is currently behind the couch. And you can move your funky chair to the right so it is directly in front of the window, which will be the best place to see the view, and probably a better distance to swivel around and see the tele. I would think that you will want more work surface in the kitchen - you seem like entertainers and cooks if you are going to use one of the bedrooms as a dining room. So I would have an island unit where you can sit on one side and have extra storage and a counter top. You can get lovely ones that are either fixed or on castors (the good quality ones lock properly in place, the cheap ones tend to wobble whenever you try and cut something - ugh) and you could just put two bar stools near it. I don't know if you want me to stick my nose into the dining room, but ... I love the shape and style of your dining table and chairs but I don't think you'll be able to fit a table with six chairs in a room that is 9'7" x 9' unless you don't plan on any humans sitting in the chairs :) Also, my experience with new builds and buying off plan is that the rooms don't always quite match the dimensions in the plan. They might only be off by a few inches, but I wouldn't buy any new furniture for that room until you are there. Fingers crossed it might end up bigger than the plan dimensions!...See MoreLiving Room, Dining Room Layout
Comments (12)A couple of options:- I'd put the games table in the study as for me personally it has no place in the lounge / dining area and should be out of the way in a separate room. With the games table out of the way, you have more room for seating in the lounge area & the conservatory, which can then be opened up for larger gatherings :-...See MoreWhat colour/style of living room furniture would suit my living room?
Comments (4)Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains. White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns. Braided area rugs in pastel and light colors also make a good selection. Some pictures below:...See Morefireplace removed - room looks weird - living room layout help
Comments (8)Where are your power points? The vast radiator covers seems the natural centre of the room to refocus the interest, so reorganise around that point with TV flat on wall. Conversation sofas either side could balance the room and make it more intimate or placing an L/corner sofa parallel to the existing radiator could provide you with a frame if the access to other rooms fron the front door is through this room. Currently all furnishing are pushed into the corners. You can easily move some power points and sky points and conceal the cables. Reinstating a fire place if the chimney brest has been removed can be a big job. You will be restricted to an alternative heating source, so any solid fuel burner could be expensive without an existing flue/chimney. You would be looking at electric wall mounted solutions or faking it entirely with a mantel/fire/hearth, so this then becomes a styling question for you....See MoreLydi
