How to tie open-plan kitchen/ living/ dining room areas together?
Comments (13)I agree with many of the suggestions above, especially that there's too much furniture in the living room. You're going to hate me for saying this but I think there's too much clutter and busyness overall for such a small space. I'd radically reduce the number of pictures and knick-knacks in both rooms – especially the living room – and move the ones you keep to less prominent places. I'd also take the coat rack and cookery bookshelves out completely, and replace the busy parquet flooring with either not-busy plank laminate or a simple-patterned or solid rug. Finally, I like trees but that spidery palm tree is hideous IMO....See MoreIdeas for kitchen/living/dining room please?
Comments (2)Hi there! This current room layout actually looks like the best use of space to maximise storage and your worktop space. Have you considered an island instead of a peninsular worktop? The island could sit in the middle of the space at approximately 2m X 1.2m. This would be more of a feature and would create a more sociable space. Another thing to consider is curved worktops and a curved corner unit on the right hand side. This will create a better flow within the kitchen and the curved corners will be toddler friendly! We hope this helps....See MoreHelp with designing living room/dining/kitchen please.
Comments (6)Regarding plug sockets - you can never have too many! Make sure there are enough in the kitchen at counter-top level. Either side of the bed is very useful and I would recommend one in the hall to plug the hoover into. I would also suggest a hotel style additional light switch by the bed head (its a small luxury but I love being able to turn it off without going back to the door). It doesn't look like there's that much counter top space in the kitchen so I would recommend buying something like this as an island: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-islands-trolleys/stenstorp-kitchen-island-white-oak-art-60323021/ This would also help to divide the kitchen/living space and provides space for a couple of bar stools for casual dining/chatting whilst cooking. If your daughter likes this idea then you may want to have a pendant light fitting over the island. Consider bathroom storage and where a shaver socket would be best placed for electric toothbrushes etc. If opting for spotlighting then get dimmer switches so you can control how bright they are. It also looks like the bathroom door and hall cupboard door will intersect each other at the moment so I would suggest having the bathroom door open inwards instead....See MoreOpen plan kitchen living dining room how to choose colour.
Comments (1)Hi Susannah, I would advise you to get samples pots of all your choices and paint the relevant walls (large areas and in corners to check colours in shadow too). Make sure you judge the effect of each colour on the other in the room. Best wishes, JNSQ...See MoreUser
