How would you improve the front of this house?

We’ve just purchased this 60’s detached house in Essex. We’ll be expanding the drive across the front garden for space but unsure how to improve the front.

I’m not keen on the tiles on the front of the house but not sure what I can do about them?

You could replace the tiles with Cedral board, a prepainted concrete board.

I’m just coming to the end of renovating a 1960s bungalow and I’ve gone for render and cedar cladding. It’s generated a lot of attention from people passing but and personally is a style that I think works so well with 1960s/1970s properties.

I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps.

Rather than render, that can stain (my neighbour's new render keeps having to be redone as it's stained in the corners of the window and is now beginning to break up, despite being carried out by specialists), why not consider weatherboard cladding? It's cement, comes in a variety of colours, requires no maintenance and provides extra insulation. I used it on a first floor extension to my home and absolutely love it. I think keep the wood effect if it's not a mahogany colour (can't quite tell?) if it is, then replace it with a more contemporary wood fascia instead which reallly works with a mid grey tone. The grey woodwork on the door will be soft against the brickwork. You can either have white on the front block or a pale grey to match it all together. Thinking more the vintage grey rather than the very dark grey on the walls because of the side stones.

One option is to put on a two storey extension (because a loft conversion would lose a bedroom for the stairs). I think I would turn the garage into a utility/bootroom and then get an army surplus shed for the garden.
