Rooflight over kitchen counters or over dining table?
Comments (4)Roof light over Dining table - as you need good task lighting over your cabinets and worktops - which can be tricky to span over a roof light - people at table can look up to the starry sky or sit bathed in sunshine ! ( if it's a nice day !) and eat by candlelight !!!...See MoreLighting over Island and Dining Table?!

Comments (5)Hi Angel This a a common questions and it always comes down to what minor things you can sacrifice to get the best of all worlds. Do I have a pendant to create a dining zone? Do I try and retain the view outside? Do I make the space versatile for parties? In my opinion a light over the table looks great if you do not have one already over the kitchen island (if you have one). Keep the light above head level (of most of your usual guests) so that you can talk to each other . It may be worth cutting out cardboard and offering it above the table to see what works for you. The light doesnt have to be too imposing it could be something light the light below. or maybe something that is a feature but still see through like the below There are not many rise and fall lights out there that can really reduce that much to be out of the way on a standard height ceiling but if you have tall ceilings then it could work. I hope this helps, and good luck with your project....See Morehelp with rooflight layout
Comments (10)Are they roof lights or are they opening like Velux? Our new kitchen/diner faces south-south/west. It has a thinner part which is the "dining room" bit which is 4.25m x 2.75 in which we have a 2.2m wide Panoramic door leading to the patio at the rear of the house. The other end of the room is 5.75m x 4.3m. We have had a smallish fixed window - 80cm wide x 1m high, put in to work around the kitchen units. However, we do have to largish Velux windows in the kitchen part of the room and I can absolutely say, having the option to being able to open them is invaluable. Despite having the Panoramic doors, the stable door which opens onto the garden and the back door of the adjoining boot room open this summer, we were pleased to open the Velux for a through breeze. Even before we moved the kitchen from one end of the room to the other, we always opened the Velux window, because the flat roof could really warm up in the sun all day. So I would say, if you're in the slightest bit concerned about the possibility of the room getting too hot, I'd try to go for a couple of opening roof windows if the budget can stand it....See MoreTani H-S
