Comments (22)I think the interior of the rooms can be brightened/tweaked with lots of different approaches. Here a few examples: Photo one: bright, zen inspired furniture, lighter flooring(terazzo/carpet/wood). Organic colours.. Photo two: same thing, notice the bed fairly close the window. You could do that by having a pony wall/installation behind the bed as in photo three. Obviously not in wood, since your ceiling has enough of it present. Photo four: if you keep the wooden ceiling you can create interest and break up the stripe monotony with an interesting/large fixture....See MoreLarge bedroom low ceiling
Comments (5)I think you make the room look taller by having full length curtains ( vertical lines trick your eye which you may bear in mind when choosing wall lights.) avoid horizontal lines like dado rails. You might also paint the skirtings the same colour as the wall. I would see if you can lower your bed and favour talbots rather than full height wardrobes. I think pictures should be hung a little lower and you should favour portrait oriented pictures rather than landscape. When you choose your carpet ( assuming budget allows) I would have a plain border in the same colour as the walls which blurs the edges but visually makes the footprint look less large and therefore the ceiling less low....See Morepossible bookcase for darkish mid century living room
Comments (3)Thanks so much for these responses! Yes string shelving would be a great idea and would add lightness to the room while keeping the style. Unfortunately the external wall is also insulated with plasterboard because of damp problems so it would be quite complicated and risky to hang anything on it. I have now bought a Brouer Mobelfabrik rosewood bookcase for the one side . After it is in place, I will have to see whether an additional piece would work for the other side But all these are good ideas as I have another room with an internal wall where primary colours and string shelving would look great Thanks for your advice!...See MoreNew house restyle
Comments (41)Looks good :) I don't know whether it fits but could the piano go in the radiator corner (although not right in) facing the other way? I might just try painting the picture frames personally. If you've got any left over paint I'd also just paint the radiators in the wall emulsion and see what you think. I don't know whether this would work structurally plus you may hate them (!) but I feel like a hanging chair could work next to the tv. It would need to be a slimmish one and I'd go for one that doesn't visually feel the space too much...See MoreCarolina
