Looks like a Yukka (marginata or something of that ilk due to the variegation on the leaves)..can't remember the looking after bit, think they are pretty self sufficient, but should help you to look it up.

I use artificial flowers and stems indoors. They seemed quite eye wateringly expensive but everybody comments on them and tbh you make your money back very quickly if you were to buy the same quantity in fresh. That's not to say I don't have fresh flowers though but they're a lot more limited! I've only tried faux plants once, I had buxus in really large pots outside my front door earlier this year. Anyway due to the pot size I didn't put them in soil so we lost one in a storm after a few months...

Eucalyptus. They are from Australia originally and grow to be exceptionally large trees so plant with care (not near buildings because of damage to foundations). It's a fantastic plant for floral arrangements - what you can do is grow one but regularly trim it back and use the trimmings for vases etc. This way you keep the tree in check and enjoy the beautiful foliage.

Yes something in the potato family like Carolina said. I planted a blue flowering ornamental climber from the potato family in my first ever garden and the flower was just like that but blue. Remember since I thought it funny it was potato :)
