New wooden flooring going down - what to do with old door thresholds??

Hi everyone,
I’m getting new wooden flooring throughout the house but I naively had all the carpets in the bedrooms replaced while keeping the old fashioned door thresholds. I’m now left unsure as to what I should do when the wooden floor goes down. Am I best to just remove them & put the wooden floor right up to the carpet & put in a metal threshold?

Comments (25)wow stellahome, what a grand house and entrance! I'm intrigued! Do you have many original features left in the house? servant bells maybe? :) Post some pictures for us! I am very familiar with lassco, in fact I currently live 5 mins away from there, and pop in often, they have many wonderful items which really enhance an old house. Took a couple of more pictures today of the dresser, as even though it looks very worn, look at the dovetail joint details! Comments (2)Sisal is impossible to clean and the dirt falls through it, so it's not very hygienic. I would recommend replacing it with a carpet made of olefin or nylon. A fibre that has the colour in the solution it's made of will not absorb stains and will be easily cleanable. Comments (5)We'd definitely agree with going for a wood threshold. You're quite right in thinking it avoids introducing a third material to the mix. We've also found that wood thresholds are becoming much more popular than a brass alternative. They provide a smoother and more subtle transition between rooms....See More

5 years agoThe trouble with trying to replace them now is that the carpet isn't going to come far enough in to the doorway to meet the new door bars. Just noticed also that the door has been hung from the door stop not recessed in to the casing. The door should close against the door stop.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI still think the door is on the door stop not beside it.
My stops are quite wide as it's an old cottage, but you see it is sat on the casing and that the door will then shut against the stop, thus giving it something to shut against.
