Need help for my TV Room please!!
Comments (29)Good decision then! glass and stainless steel is how Iv decorated my own home. Think from the look of it your on the right road and can't wait to see the finished article! Only thing I would say is if possible when you do the colour scheme /dark walls=light furniture / light walls =dark furniture and may help renting furniture to get an idea of what it will look like in the room before deciding, if you have time? Nothing worse than ending up with that sofa you hate! You have good taste and think the rooms will look great!...See MoreHELP! Would love advice on how to make (horrid) tv look LESS dominant
Comments (29)Hi, I too love the colour railings, however, i'm ging to disagree with everyone as usual. I've done a mock up of the T.V mounted on the fireplace, but you'd have to build up the sides just to make the size of the T.V make sense. ( Why oh why do men want big T'V's????) I didn't like it. I would highly suggest that the T.V either sits on the other wall opposite the couch, or and i prefer this to anything else. Have a beautiful corner cabinet which then turns the T.V slightly towards the couch and encompasses both storage and all horrible wiring !...See Morefireplace TV or cinema screen?
Comments (18)This is a subjective question. Some people like the fireplace, some don’t. It’s personal taste. I personally really like it. It brings character & warmth & a focal point. Not everyone is fortunate to have a chimney so I would embrace it. But it is what you like that matters as you have to look at it! I personally would fit the largest TV you can fit in the larger r/h alcove - let us know the measurements of this alcove? Looks from the photo like you could get a 75” there? Maybe even 80+. I’d put a floating media style unit underneath (have a look at IKEA) with LED lighting. On the smaller left side alcove I would shelve it full height, again with some soft integrated led lighting. Shelves could be wood, glass, or have chrome/brass trims depending on the style of your decor. It doesn’t all need to be centralised & symmetrical- work with the room rather than against it. We have a large pull down projector screen which is only effective when sitting at the back of the room (6 metres away). I much prefer to watch a tv screen. There is no way a 200” screen would work in this size room (sorry). The pixies would appear blurred & your eyes will hurt. It would just be silly in a small room. A 75” is still absolutely enormous & great for films, especially if you plan some clever soft/dimmable LED lighting around the room to give you that cinema feel....See More2 design worries: kitchen & TV
Comments (26)Christine, wow, that's a ton of ideas, thank you very much! We already thought of these sockets with USB included, and will definitely get those for all desk and bed areas. It's such a small improvement but I am so excited about it already! Also love your suggestions for hiding cables. I hope we won't have to (rather have all cables in the walls and have them come out where we want them to) but if that's not possible, in particular around the fireplace area then this will be very valuable, so thank you. Not so concerned about soundproofing the floor - we live in a similar flat right now, hardwood floors and underfloor heating, and we walk around in socks with no issues. It is more the kids' bedrooms that are facing the fireplace that I am concerned with. Son is playing online games with kids from around the world and well, yes, there is a lot of screaming that comes with that. Sitting right in front of the doors won't be very relaxing for us when he yells on top of his lungs "FXCK YOU!!!" (and yes, I do tell him off). I love the partitioning, wall slider, shelves gallery - definitely something to investigate later. I think we may have to move in first to get a feel of the space. I don't want to cram it with furniture and create a maze if not needed. But it may help regulate the space and make it cosier. As for the TV placement, if you have a look at the photo I just shared, we are thinking about either having a TV shelf with a smaller TV (not 55 inch as we have now) or maybe a bracket or pole solution which we mount to the side of the fireplace if the brickwork (I believe it's bricks, will need to check) does support it. This would allow us to move the TV set around so that we can watch from different angles. But when looking at the fireplace as it is right now I think the architect envisioned the TV mounted right there on top....See MoreJonathan
