kitchen tiles - help not sure what to choose!
I initially wanted wood to make the room feel warm with natural materials. However it’s difficult to match wood to exactly the original floorboards in our hallway. I found one tile which I like. However, worried it’s too busy. I’ve attached some photos of kitchens I like and using for inspiration!

5 years agoThe tile you like is gorgeous, but more suitable for a bathroom or hall. I think it is too busy for a kitchen personally. Funnily enough, the pics of kitchens you like all have quite plain floors! I think a simple large format porcelein tile that mimics a stone finish would be better, and then there is no need to match it with the wooden floor in the hall. i also like wood effect porcelein tiles but then they may clash with the hallway?

Also metro sub/way tiles on walls - whether to go for a sage tile or cream/white... The dining room area off the kitchen will have oak parquet floor which will follow through from hall and will also be in the lounge but Im thinking of following the wall colour in the kitchen through to the dining room for continuity and potentially painting the chimney brest or wall furthest away from and facing the kitchen a darker green complementary colour... Comments (13)Hi, I've now had quartz worktops fitted in a white with grey and mirror flecks (compact lactea) & attach photos. Cabinets are all done too. My next area is what to do for splashback behind the hob/under the extractor. I originally wanted to do red glass across the length of the wall, but we have had under unit lights fitted below the higher cabinets and at night I can change these to any colour I want. If I do red all across I won't get the effect of the lights. Not even sure red would go? The wooden chairs are going and will be replaced & I still need to choose my island lights (thinking 3 pendants hanging). Husband thinks stainless steel sheet behind hob. I'm not sure this will look right with dark glass hob under it & wonder if it is hard to look clean all the time. What ideas do you all have as you helped with the worktops. I also show the dining table and the new open lounge area (intend to put a rug down). We also still need to find wall lights....See Morehelp!!! What floor tiles do we choose for our kitchen????
Comments (8)I agree with your friend that travertine will be a nightmare to keep clean - too many nooks and crannies for dirt to nestle into! I love porcelain tiles, they are tough and so easy to clean, quick hoover and a mop. I have them in a dark grey slate look a like In my kitchen. They come in so many forms from wood effect through to all the stone effect finishes. Worth going to a good tile store and have a good look around. Bring the door with you so you can colour match. i think any of the F&B beige neutrals will look good on the walls. I particularly Purbeck Stone and Skimming Stone. Comments (5)Something more interesting! There are such a huge array of tiles available that you can have something lovely. As the units and worktop are dark I would go with a light palette. Hexagonal tiles are lovely. If you wanted subway tiles you could lay then in a more interesting way such as herringbone (better with slim subways) or upright, like below...See More

5 years agoI like the tile, but I also like large format porcelain tiles too. I would personally go for something really individual and timeless. I have very matt, unglazed porcelain tiles in my kitchen and I like them, but I LOVE my porcelain patterned tiles in my bathroom. Here is a kitchen with patterned tiles and dark units, just out of interest.

5 years agoI don't think you necessarily need to match the wood if that's what you want, maybe consider a pattern? I've got this design but in oak and walnut and then another room is just walnut planks. You could maybe try a chevron, it should be easy to find something to complement colour wise ? You can also get aged/distressed engineered wood which I assume (!) are available in parquet sizes if you wanted that look
