Need help to dress a huge kitchen sliding door/window!!
Comments (6)We have a similarly sized window and after much research and deliberation opted for 3 x silentgliss roller blinds inside the window recess plus wave curtains. The blinds are in a translucent fabric to screen the sunlight and are electrically operated so there is no chain hanging down. They can be adjusted individually to suit where we need to screen the sun. We went for black fabric as surprisingly it is more translucent than white so we can still see out on a sunny day when the blinds are down. The curtain tracks are quite long so we can draw the curtains right back and they don't obstruct the door or block the view/light. We have a wonderful view and are not overlooked but find that much bare window is not comfortable feeling at night (just a big black shiny space!) so the unlined linen curtains make the room cozy and also provide acoustic softening which prevents the room being too 'echoey'. The wave tracks are great as with a big window you have a lot of curtain but they need less fabric than standard tracks so stack more compactly. Enjoy your home!...See MoreHow would you dress this window?
Comments (6)Thanks for the suggestion forzaitalia, but I don't think Roman blinds will work in this window for me because it's much wider than it is tall, so losing a bit of the top to the blinds would mean a weird bit of window on show, which I wouldn't like....See MoreHow would you dress these windows?
Comments (12)Hi there, I can see that you have beautiful yet challenging windows with the added issue of radiators underneath which I assume you’d prefer not to cover with lined curtains? Because of not having any recess to speak of roller blinds are not ideal. You might get away with voile pleated blinds since their cassette is more discreet. Romans fitted just under the coving on extension brackets would clear the architrave around the window but there would be considerable light bleed around the edges as a result. I’m wondering whether shutters might be the day / night solution you need? It would be quite tight on the right hand window as it’s so close to the wall, but it might be worth getting a shutter company in to explore this if that idea appealed....See MoreYet another post about window dressing
Comments (42)Minnie, you have impeccable taste, everyone on Houzz agrees so don’t even try to dispute it! :)) Ikat is another great option, I’ll add it to my list. I’d visited a couple of curtain makers and had one come around to measure... While I am now more clear about either to have curtains or blinds in whichever room, choosing fabrics is still a struggle... I came home with some 12 samples books and only managed to confuse myself even further. Andrew is good at telling me what he doesn’t like/want, but when I ask for a decision between 2 options, he just says ‘whatever you want’ even when I had just finished telling him I can’t choose... Sorry, rant over; I think I am becoming less adventurous than I used to be and it frustrates me......See Morejessa61
