I wonder if it could be installed over ceramic tile that is in good shape but dated.

Its was a slate floor, unfortunately we did not supply it so I cant give any further information.

Hi- just an fyi, I'm American and we Americans do NOT use real wood for weatherboarding!!! 20-30 years ago ppl used vinyl but that had issues, now they use a very strong resin board. No rotting or painting.

Hoovering? Is that vacuuming? :) I actually love to vacuum! Such a pleasant result! Ironing, dusting and grout are least favorites. I don't buy things that will need ironing, so that's not on the list of must-do's. Dusting is otherhalf's contribution (thank God!). Grout...I try and get by with spray on bleach cleaner.

I suggest dividing the room. Which ever side is the largest place the sofa and on the other place the chair. If you put the sofa in the bay facing the fireplace it wouldn't be too distant to enjoy the heat or the feature. Stage the chair to the side of the fire place. In the middle of the room leading from one door to the other place a rug as this will signify the route to take, lead the eye and create two areas in one room which are joined depending on whether one is sitting or walking through to access storage. I suggest paiting the doors the same colour as the walls - keeping the door frame and skirting board the same. The doors will then seamlessly blend in. To my mind you have an exciting room with the advantage of good storage. I suggest looking at palaces (seriously) as the rooms can have the same issue of doors. Look at how they are managed. Also, have fun with the lighting. As it is a library where will you sit to read? Write? Drink your port? Use lighting to create the mood for each area.

Hi. If you paint the end ŵalls either a darker or warmer shade it will go some way to correcting the proportions of the room (Or if you like stripes you could add a striped rug or wallpaper). I must admit I would probably keep the chimney breast whether you change the fire or not, they add character and you can add consoles, cabinets, chairs etc which tend to look better in alcoves than flat ŵalls. I would also use a textured wallpaper in the long ŵall colour to add interest. I think the issue is the lack of furniture in the middle of the room which would make it feel wider. Could you add a coffee table? Is the sofa to scale in the 1st pic? I would pull it away from the ŵall even if it just inches (will help with radiator too, is that the only one you have in the room as it doesn't seem big enough?). I had a look in your Ideabook and it looks as if you want a windowseat? If so, i'd move the sofa so it's opposite the fire and put the armchair at the opposite end of the room and use a rug to define that seating area with the front feet of the seating on the rug. If you want the tv over the fire I'd put it on a tilting, swinging arm.
