Handleless kitchens are a growing trend which is here to stay. Creating a simpler look with clean lines, handleless kitchens are a popular contemporary choice.

Available as true handleless, J-profile and pop-open doors, you can achieve that sleek, minimalist look with a range of door options. Our Cucina Colore collection comes in silk, gloss, matt, supermatt, woodgrain and textured finishes. Often two contrasting colours are used in a design, for example a feature island, or darker wall units.

Handleless kitchens are more hygienic as there are less places for dirt to gather. They can also work well as a seamless divide between kitchen and living areas.

Hi, can I give my two-penny thoughts on this post please? I too am in a similar situation as Julia here. Mine is a linear laminate two-tone kitchen (ordered not yet delivered) with bottom cupboards in faux grey wood effect and top cupboards in a white gloss lacquer. Worktop is in white laminate. My walls are painted white. Like Julia I too need to create colour as a background to the top part of my kitchen which will be white from the worktop upwards. I am currently inclined towards placing a glass splashback that will either cover the whole four-meter wall (less the 60cm fridge at the end) or else just the 80cm part behind the 60cm-wide hob. I personally wouldn't go for a brightly coloured glass splashback because as Minnie says I might tire of it after a while, so it'll likely be clear or frosted or possibly self-designed. Any ideas on those lines for us both perhaps? I agree with you guys that we need to create colour, but couldn't we just paint the walls above and below the top cupboards? That way we could change the colour easily if we'd feel like a cheap uplift along the years :) thanks!!

Well, the chippies van was up the drive when I got home from work - a little unexpected. At first I thought that he was sleeping with the Mrs, but then I remembered that he needed to finish the skirting boards. He's done a cracking job - quite a few tricky internal/external corners, plus the corners not being exactly 90 degrees he was back and forth to his saw all the time. He really did a stirling job. It was 13 meters of skirting in total - which took him 4.5 hours in total (over 2 evenings) and it cost me £90. Considering I was origionally going to do it, it could well be the best £90 I've spent on this whole kitchen. I need to get a lick of paint inside the alcove that's pictured. Our little fishtank will be returning in there, but as it's out I may as well do it. When we get the bar stools, and dining room table & chairs I will update again. So: What would I change/add/remove ADD - Somewhere to hang the tea-towels. We have some on the inside of a cuboard, but they keep falling off. Maybe I need some slightly more expensive 'hangers'. The space where they could have gone we put a spice rack/draw thingie - that's probably better though. ADD - We forgot about the bin! Now we have our pedal-bin basically kicking around the kitchen. The Mrs has already filled the cupboards to maximum capacity so I'm having trouble getting an internal cupboard one past her. I think I may just fit one then deal with her later. The bin has gravitated to a semi-perminant place, but with the kids trying to be *cough* helpfull the wall is already beginning to get the odd splatter of 'stuff' where they just throw their food in the general direction of it. Last night I said 'Well, why don't we just put it in the utility room' - She shot that idea down instantly as she obviously isn't happy about the extra 4 steps that it would take to walk all-that-way into another room. Poor thing! Typical woman lol. ADD - At the start of the project I would have got the electricians to chase in another mains wire from the fusebox so that it comes out of the kitchen wall centrally to the back garden, then I would put a PIR Security Light in. I know that it's not a big job by any means, and I could, and probably will, do it myself over the coming weeks but if I could have had it without a wire on the outside of the house then that'd would have been perfect. Also, thinking about it, I would have actually got him to do it at the front of the house as well as he re-wired the whole downstairs with new fusebox etc.

Yes I would go 'strip handle' as above if a proper handleless was not an option. Wren or cheaper will simply not work . I have designed and helped friends who were on a budget with Howdens kitchens (I'm a qualified interior designer with over 10 years experience in very high end kitchens) , their (Howdens) top of the range collection is really good. Really good mechanisms and drawers (the dark square drawers ) I have not looked at their handleless options so can't comment if it's a 'rail' behind the door like the photo few comments above I would go for it. You would need a proper help with the design and ordering as their 'designers' are not that experienced ... Easiest option get your Wren (if you are happy with it ) quote / design and ask the Howdens designer/ sales person to copy it. ;)

Here’s an example of how to use the method above. All measurements taken are using the device’s own internal light source which is called D65. So straight away you are comparing colours from the same starting point. Using the device, I took measurements of Maggie’s stunning marble work surface. To the naked eye, it appeared a white slab with light grey & dark grey veining. However when measured, the white majority of the slab belonged to the yellow Hue Family & the darkest veins sat in the Yellow-Red Hue Family. Taking further sample measurements of the stone slab flooring, confirmed they too sat in the Yellow Hue Family. So to tie both flooring and work surface together with colour for the island & kitchen units, it made sense to begin looking for colours within the same Hue Family. Getting a Hue Angle reading gives a spot to plot it on the Wheel. The info also gives other key attributes for each colour, making comparison much simpler. Maggie knew she wanted a dark colour for the island, a mid tone for the cupboards & something lighter again for the walls. It’s a new mode of working for most of us home owners, but it’s actually just working with the information companies use to make the colours in the first place. And so it’s a much more objective starting point to finding the right colour for the job. I wish you lots of luck on your quest!
