Electric Showers - yay or nay?

I'm having a loft conversion soon and having a shower room put in. I'm thinking of putting in an electric shower. What are your thoughts?

For context, there will also be a boiler-fed shower in the ensuite to the main bedroom and another boiler-fed bathroom which will have a bath with shower-attachment taps.

I was thinking of having an electric shower as a back up in case the boiler fails. However last year I installed a brand new Worcester Bosch 440 combi (a big one).

Ask your plumber about flow rates- basically you need to know if a boiler fed shower will have sufficient power in the attic. If it does then in my opinion this will be a superior shower than any electric one.

I personally would always go with non-electric, far superior to electric in my opinion. Plus realistically if your boiler did breakdown, it's unlikely to be more than a couple of days, just get some boiler cover. I had an electric shower once and I found them less reliable and ended up breaking down more

Are you keen on keeping the bath next to the window? You could possibly move the vanity so that it is immediately ahead when you walk in the door, build a thin wall to the ceiling behind that and hide the toilet behind the wall. The toilet would then be in the bottom left corner. You could put a towel rail where the toilet currently is. The bath could stay as is. Turn the glass for the shower 90 degrees so that it is on the right as you enter the room. That way you have a 'wet area' without splashing the whole bathroom. you can have a a drain next to the wall rather than in the middle of the floor. Not sure it would all fit, but you could give it a go! With the current plan, you will need to work out how to slope the floor to the drain in the floor, which may be tricky. You also need to work out where you will hang towels so that you can reach them, but they won't get splashed.

Believe it or not I saw a small sized shower non slip mat in white with vertical or horizontal lines depending on mat placing in the shower . I am a true believer in safety first!! How many people will come into your bathroom to pass judgement?? I've fallen in my one person shower had a massive bruise for over a week, it could have been so much worse !? Look around to find a non slip bath mat you may be surprised at the stylish ones around now. Jmo limrie ☺️

So, the electrician has been and gone and we have opted for a smaller chandelier in the middle of the room so we don't hit our heads as we walk in. As we have an chopped our house around and changed every single internal wall and most of the outside too! We now have a fairly modern feel in the house. I put the mural suggestion to my husband who wan't too keen, I mentioned the distressed mirror and he likened it to the other older mirrors that we have just removed from the house. The taps are going on the dwarf stud wall behind the bath, so there are no options to put a floor to ceiling mirror/mural/plant. The space I will have is approx 150mm above the bath to the ceiling. Approx height 1400 x width 2000mm. I only have about £150-£600 to spend so it has to be something fairly low key but with a wow effect or I won't get it approved by husband who holds on tightly to the purse strings! So we have some options: Either tile and have a feature tile design... I wouldn’t compromise on everyday shower quality and design for the off chance of boiler break down, so boiler fed for me too if the pressure is ok. You could have an immersion heater for back up, I think

We definitely agree with the experts above. Opt for a non-electric shower. Especially if you'd like an aesthetically pleasing shower and the overall look. There's so many designer options out there in different styles and finishes. But unfortunately el. showers are way behind. Although to be honest, Triton Aspirante looks quite nice:) Good luck with your bathroom renovation!
