How to hide pipes (or make them less of an eyesore?)
Comments (13)if you can't put the pipes in the wall, and changing everything to pretty copper is out of budget (copper gets $$$ quick), it may be possible to paint the pipe with a metallic finish paint to make it LOOK like it's a decorative feature. the copper metallic paints aren't horrible, but next to real copper, fall short. the chrome or stainless paints though, look pretty good. good luck!...See MoreHow to hide unsightly boiler
Comments (2)You might be restricted by where it is and also enclosed tight in a cupboard if it needs space around it. However, you could have a kind of wooden jacket that sits on top of it so it basically has a front, sides & top only. MDF would do it. You could paint it in chalkboard paint to use for shopping list etc or magnetic paint and use as a notice board...See MoreHow best to hide these electrics above our Victorian front door?
Comments (24)Hi - in response to Carol's comment, I attach a photo of what we've done so far. We had the power company come in and move the meter down slightly (that was the bit on the left in the original photo above) and put it onto a smaller backplate for us. Then we had our electrician in to put in a new fusebox. Then we had our carpenter in to make a small box picking up the moulding on the inside front door, which also matches the doors leading off the hallway. We had the plasterer in to make good the area. So far that's where we are as we don't want to paint until we do the whole hallway, and first we need to change the radiator from the old flat panel one to something more in keeping with the property. I particularly resonated with Jonathan's comment above, with the thought that the eye wants to 'read' the ceiling and floor details...we felt a big box going across the whole top of the front door would feel a little 'top heavy' - as we came down the stairs and as you entered the hallway from the kitchen. We are pleased that the footprint of the whole thing was massively reduced. It turns out to be a handy little place to stash a torch as well. Thanks for everyone's comments - it was very much appreciated. Maybe I can send a photo of the final final result once decorated!...See MoreHide pipes/ general outdoor toilet uplift!
Comments (4)I’m no expert but we placed a cupboard around our boiler and then boxed in all the pipework with MDF. We’ve got a lot of boxing in as the house is old and had no central heating when we moved in. Then we painted the walls and the boxing all one colour so it sort of blends in. You could use a kitchen cupboard or get a carpenter to build one. We got someone in to do all the work as it was just too much for us. A carpenter will cost £150-£250 a day but they should do a good job. In the pic below the cream cupboard houses the boiler and to the right (above the blind) is a pipe boxed in area. Sorry the picture is a bit rubbish but I hope you get the ideas. I think plastering/plaster boarding the walls and adding a sink and a radiator is an excellent idea....See MoreUser
