Help with tiling query pls !!

I am using subway tiles for my laundry/utility splashback.

The problem is my benchtop was installed too high and I’m having it lowered to standard height (900mm) so my washer fits nicely beneath it. The difference is 50mm.

My query is should I have a cut tile top and bottom OR a full tile at the bottom and cut tile at the top.

Grateful for any advice.

Instead of changing the tiles. How about raising the washer?

I would just cut the bottom tiles, it's common to have your cuts on the bottom and your full tile at the top. You could also consider an up stand instead, less tiling and cutting. You could even consider acrylic cut to size in a colour of your choice and make a feature of it, it may look nicer than a half tile.

Are you planning to cut the unit down on the right? I presume it's a slightly taller than average unit, which is why the work top ended up a little higher than you want.

We're tall and hate our work tops 890mn , we're stuck with our kitchen now, but in future would have higher ones. Our Utility is much higher as we have American Machines, perfect.

Hi thorpesa, I can see why you went for it, it looks really nice. But if you have it and don't like it I would suggest you sell it on. Someone is going to love it just as it is. You could end up titivating it yet still not love it and then it would be more difficult to sell. So, look for something you really like then when you are ready buy the new mantel or stove, and sell this piece. I hope that's helpful?

You have a good entry to work with, it needs to welcome you home! A hall table to plonk down the keys, a bowl to put them in, a mirror or maybe a large print above and a rug that will do heavy duty.... so some ideas. I've leaned towards darker woods for the warmth that it gives as I'm making the assumption that paint and flooring are not able to be changed. Of course, it these 2 elements are open to change - well, the world is your oyster as they say!

Hi, We got white kitchen with copper profiles. I like to add some colour to this kitchen . I am thinking to go with copper turquoise mixed splashback with turquoise chairs . Will that look odd ? Or shall I go with only grey or copper. Is it very difficult to get tiles in that colour . Where is the best place to find those colour tiles . Sorry for asking so many questions. Any ideas really helpful. Thank you .

I looked at the anti-vibration pads, but the thickest i could find was 20mm, they do make life difficult if you need to repair the washing machines / plumbing as they make it twice as hard to get the machines out.

I'm not sure that making the gap smaller at the top will help all that much any way, as the whole sink unit isn't deep enough to cover the front. If the whole thing was brought forward it would look better.

I wouldn’t lower the worktops at all. Just leave it as it is as it’s a utility room, seems an awful lot of faff to reduce that little gap. Yes you have a bit of a gap but no big deal, or am I missing something here?

Hi Man about the house, out of interest - for when I’m next in the market for washing machine and dryer replacements, I’d love to go ‘American’ and wondered where you sourced your machines from? (we visit California regularly and think the machines there are just so much more efficient and quicker!)

Haven't used these but maybe this could do the trick. And make it easy to get the appliance out to clean or maintain. 38mm tall.
