Dark kitchen dilemma
We have just moved into our new home and we’re planning to do the kitchen right away. The kitchen is fairly dark and we have been using lights during the day (I suppose it is winter?!)
We really like the idea of dark blue units, marble tops and brass handles..however were worried that it may feel dark and enclosed. The other option is to go for a very pale grey with the marble tops and brass handles. The room isn’t tiny, it’s about 6m x 3m.
Any advice would be great

Comments (10)Hi. I assume the house is light anyway as a dark carpet wouldn't have been an option otherwise? I think you have lots of options as it's so neutral. Follow what Alant did for his room. Or mix white and a brightly coloured chair or sofa. Or add a pale or a large bright rug. Or stick to other neutral coloured furnishings. Or go for a lighter grey sofa and either bright cushions or pastels. Yellows are very popular at the moment and look great with grey. Comments (1)I would make the door match the other doors. To introduce light to the landing I would glaze a loft hatched sized hole in the ceiling and put a velux in the roof. Comments (15)I have karndean flooring in my bathroom as well as the rest of the house. I have tiled my kitchen floor and glad I did. We have hard water and when droplets dry on the karndean in the bathroom they show up. They are easily washed away but I wouldn't like to be forever moping it. Comments (5)As mentioned by the others, having tiles and upstands together would look rather bizarre. I’d suggest removing the upstands and adding white or dark grey tiles. You could also add white tiles with dark grey designs to maintain the colour scheme that you’ve got going. Tiles would also be much easier to clean, and if you choose dark grey tiles, any stains wouldn’t be visible at all. I recently got my entire kitchen redesigned with the help of these kitchen fitters called Saturn Interiors. They took care of all the minor and major details, so I didn’t have to worry about any of it. If you want to, you could consult with them about this issue. We love a confident colour choice for the main furniture and in a long room agree that light units are a good choice for the wall cabinets. 5 years agoAgree with the comments regarding a mix of darker units on the bottom and lighter on top can work really well, add interest and anchor the room.
Clever lighting solutions like pelmet and plinth lights can really help. Using either some glass door fronts on wall cabinets, or open shelving can also help keep things lighter.
