Hi

I am finally able to replace my kitchen and need some design ideas. I was thinking of an unfussy shaker style and I need more storage and more drawers than I have (ones there now are very small and two are false). I would also like to incorporate a larder.

Regarding the appliances I would like a 90cm free standing dual fuel - I like the look of the Bertazzoni but they don’t have great reviews and I think I prefer a free standing fridge freezer - does this take up less space?

All layout ideas appreciated. I have to keep the sink where it is and the cooker to save money. Dishwasher is to the left of the sink. Can I keep the extractor and sink I already have?

Thank you so much that is so kind. I would like a larder and a freestanding fridge freezer. I cannot have a 90cm oven as I measured the space and in the small kitchen it looks ridiculous. John Lewis did me a plan but they have a very limited number of unit sizes plus fitting was astronomical. I then thought I would really like a Schuller German kitchen something a bit more modern and to take me out of my comfort zone but that was more expensive than I realised and it was one of those companies that do not let you see the plan. I am attaching the right hand side view of the kitchen currently and the John Lewis plan. I am also sending a crude floor plan but bear in mind the walls either side of the entrance are coming down and the ceiling is a little lower there because of the steel in the supporting wall.

Hi Brona, You've got a decent sized kitchen so probably a logical layout based on how you as a family use your space could solve everything. It sounds to me like you need a large pantry block where you can store all of your worktop appliances out of sight but within easy reach. This will then free up usable prep space rather than the lots of top but no space that you have now! it's about zoning your areas so everything you need for a particular activity is in the right place so you're not running all over the kitchen getting your 10k steps just cooking supper! If you read over a breakfast bar (sorry, no time to look properly) then you may want to be able to switch the light above that on and off separately to save lighting the whole place. Ensure that recessed lights are spaced according to the ceiling you have after you've put wall cupboards in place (tall ones flush to the ceiling also saves cleaning and you can use a slim stepladder to reach stores etc in the upper shelves) and ensure that lights are central above work surfaces so you aren't working in your own shadow. My electrician refused to believe this would be the case and we had to install a second row of lights to correct his error. I hope this helps. (You'll clock that my lights were not put in well!)

I would definitely keep the end window as this has the link to the rest of the garden, also it looks like a lovely bright room and it would be a shame to ruin that. To maximise this room, I would move the entrance to under the stairs to the dining room so that you can free up that whole long side. You can then put the cooker on this long wall with any tall units towards the dining room (darkest part of the room) and you've suddenly doubled your kitchen size and not had to do anything expensive - moving the understairs door will be a few hundred.
