Update Moorcroft table lampshades

I have two traditional Moorcroft lamps, and two candlestick lamps which desperately need new lampshades. The original lampshades were bespoke, matching both the lamp when off or on, and complementping our traditional Victorian home. We have now downsized and I would like a more a contemporary look. The lamp base is 33 cms high with c 10 cms to the point where the shade fitting rests. Lampshade is 40 cms by 36cms high, so overall height of lamp and shade is c 75 cms. . The photo gives a slightly exaggerated perspective and doesn’t show true colour. Ignore those temporary curtains colour in the background!

I like to have an eclectic mix of styles and colours but have gone for white walls to show off art work.

Hi Dorothy, not sure what your dilemma is. Are you wanting new lampshades for your Moorcroft bases?

Yes. I am looking for inspirationfor lampshades. I have been searching for five years and can’t find the right shade. I don’t want anything too traditional having moved on from that.

It looks great, I'm glad you and your daughter are so pleased and she has lots of room for friends over, playing etc. It can also be easily and cheaply adapted as she grows if she wants. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that if not already your daughter may soon also want the desk to double up as a dressing table and therefore I think a mirror was a good idea but the memo board (which looks great) can always be moved as and when needed. (I thought i'd posted a comment on that previously but obviously not!). I might also add a desk light there for working during winter months. So which room next?!

Hi Laura, thanks for posting. Wow, it looks amazing! Amazing how much difference the floor, splashback and mirror make, it's transformed. Well done. I'm struggling to like a splashback in my new kitchen (even though I chose it) so was looking for inspiration - my partner just doesn't get it and will probably leave me if I even dare to mention changing it :-)

I really like the idea of G plan round table. I think your room has a mix of cool (lilac, blue) colours and warm shades (the cream wardrobes) which perhaps don’t sit well together. I feel the dark dresser really belongs in a dining room rather than a bedroom. I wonder if a warmer paint on the walls, say cream or taupe, would fit better. You can then add plain curtains similar to the wall colour and then add some colour with cushions and a throw. I think burnt orange would give a lovely warmth, but if that’s not your thing, then blush pink or brown would be nice. I must admit I love green in all its hues and love Carolina’s examples, but of course there is always a paler green.

How about a linen fabric drum shade? They’re modern yet go well with modern or traditional decor. Laura Ashley and Dunelm have some nice ones, as do online store Wayfair. Something like this:
